Dr. Thomas Hale is an expert in "Medications and Mothers Milk" and his book by that name is THE reference for healthcare providers, lactation consultants, etc on listing the "pregnancy risk" and "lactation risk" of medications and I find that most medications are in the resource book, but if you don't have a care provider with access to the book, you can also find some info in a couple of different places:
The first link is open to ANYONE to read the conversations and Dr. Hale's responses about medications and pregnancy/breastfeeding, but I think they don't allow new posts anymore by other than healthcare professionals. It doesn't matter because most meds are talked about somewhere in the forums. You should still talk to your doctor...always...but make sure that the doc isn't just giving you information they haven't looked up somewhere. Never stop a medication just because you're pregnant or breastfeeding until you have seen the proof that it is contraindicated, as it can cause more harm than good to just quit.
Here is the first forum: http://www.infantrisk.com/content/webforum
This is the one where the University Texas Tech will answer these questions for mothers with "special conditions" and it's a newer forum, but many of the meds are talked about there already (that's the Uni Dr. Hale works with)

You will want to verify what I am going to say next with YOUR healthcare provider, BUT...there are VERY FEW medications that are absolutely contraindicated for pregnancy and/or breastfeeding compared to the number of medications out there. I see mothers who quit their anti-depressants or pain meds and cause much undue pain and stress when there may be an alternative OR the drug they already take, unless abused, is actually okay. It's all about getting ACTUAL info.
