I have a mirena placed in for 8 months now. For the first seven I had horrible 7 day long periods , you are only supposed to get a light 1 or 2 day period. Well anyway this past week I have felt extra tired, nasuas , constipated, headaches, so finally tonigt I took a test. There is a skinny fainy blue line, small it is,the line is there. I will take another tomorrow morning to make sure, but what is going to happen. Can a baby even be viable with a IUD in with it? Also if it is viable I do not think I can wean off my meds. I am so upset right now.

Yes, it is possible to get pregnant while using an IUD. As far as what will happen, that can only be determined by your OB/GYN and usually after a couple of tests are done to determine gestational age, and viability. An IUD is supposed to prevent implantation of an embryo but no birth control is 100% effective. I would make sure to take the test again in the morning, before you empty your bladder completely, that way, the concentration of hcg will be highest, and will give you a more accurate result, and then call your doctor for an appointment as soon as you get the results of the test.

You will be just fine, and if there is a baby, he/she will also be just fine. My ex wife had an iud and was on heavy anti psych meds when we found out about my little one, and those are way more dangerous for a baby than your pain meds. You might have to taper down a little, and I would definitely be seeing a perinatal, not just your standard ob/gyn. Best of luck to you. Let us know in the morning what it says, and if positive, probably make appointment with pm as well as ob. Thats totally awesome! I'll pop a top on some sparkling cider for ya!

Yes... you can get pregnant w/ Mirena. Don't get me started on Mirena, lol. I had it inserted in September (still dealing w/ stuff from the twins' birth) and it came out in December. Uggh.

I got pregnant w/ the twins - under almost every precaution to not get pregnant (including not having a cycle for 7 years).

Sandi gave you good information, just as she gave me when I got pregnant.... I, too, would test again and get right in to see your doctor. In the event that you are pregnant... there are ways to deal w/ tapering off meds... changing meds... all that stuff. Try not to be overly worried about all of that right now (I know, easier said than done). But test again and see what happens.

If it is positive, it will be important to see your PM and an OB/GYN.

Take care; let us know what happens. I was a complete MESS when I got pregnant... and then found out I was having twins and was on massive amounts of medications. But it all worked out... and, now, our life wouldn't be complete w/out our sweet little girls.

Ryobi, I hope you are doing ok today. Did you do another test this morning? make an appt with your doctor to discuss all the issues you may be facing.

Hope you have been able to relax a bit and talk to someone who can understand your situation.
