I am so sorry for the serious injustice you were dealt with this new PM. I promise that I DO understand because I also just had a meeting with a "second opinion" new PM. He was HORRIBLE to me and in my honest opinion, purely NUTS......that being the case, I can understand why you are overcome now!
First, however, I must say that it is unusual for a Dr to prescribe higher and higher doses of meds the way the last one did (during the period of time you were seeing him). It is also strange to me the volume of meds he was prescribing.
Please don't get me wrong, I also take MSContin 30 mg and am seeking to have my dose changed to three times per day instead of two, and I also take Oxy IR 15 four times per day, ultracet four times a day and Robaxin three times per day. The new "second opinion" PM was having a fit about the number of Oxy IR I was given. He believed in the break through pain med issue, but not that I should be taking this med on a steady basis every day. That is exactly what I have been told I MUST do....EXACTLY.
My concern is that the previous Dr was not looking into your best interest because you have been put on so many medications without a clear diagnosis or reason for them. I am afraid that he has "increased your potential for withdrawals" by potentially overmedicating instead of trying a different kind of medication to deal with your pain. I am not saying that you did not need pain meds and I certainly do NOT feel that you should be cut off like this Dr is planning (and as the "second opinion" Dr wants to do for many of my meds despite the multiple proven diagnoses I have and the supporting MRI's, CT's, X-rays, and other tests). I am simply worried about how you will handle this drastic change in medications and what you will suffer.
Please give serious consideration to finding a new PM ASAP and really listening to whatever they have to say....of course....I do not always agree with them (as I have previously described by the NUT I just saw). It is essential that you have a concrete diagnosis to help explain your need for these medications at these levels. Otherwise, you may end up in the same condition over and over again because the DEA will be watching Dr's and patients who use these medications at high levels. Things are getting so very difficult for chronic pain patients right now.
I hope you find the help you need and are able to adjust to whatever you have to face in the very near future. Please come here to vent your frustration or to celebrate your success. We welcome everyone and want to be here for you.
All my best!
