about 5-6 yrs ago I went over funny on my ankle, I was later diagnosed with a torn ligament. I thought the pain would pass in a few weeks but it just got worse. I booked an appointment with my GP but the earliest I could see him was 3 weeks, over a month after I injured it. I think there was slight swelling and bruising after it had happened but I could move my toes and there wasn't a visible deformity. I did have less movement walking and I couldn't turn it from side to side. I had to do P.E at school, running cross country or playing rounders because I didn't have a doctors note. I also had to walk a lot in medium heels and walk 30 mins home. Eventually the pain got pretty severe and I couldn't rest it on a pillow without serious pain. It was also really hard to walk because I kept getting a sharp pain shooting through my foot and ankle.
I eventually saw my doctor who listened long enough for me to tell him I went over on it funny. He never looked at it barely either. He told me it was a torn ligament and wrote me a prescription for Ibuleve anti-inflammatory gel and another few weeks later the pain wasn't as bad but still there. I never had any x-rays or bandage.
Ever since I have had repeat ankle pain, it is stiff with decreased movement and at the moment looks slightly swollen below my ankle bone. It kills to stand on and so I am putting all my weight on my left foot. It also feels quite unstable sometimes. Should I go to the Minor injuries unit of hospital to get it checked out or would they not be able to do anything now, will they order x-rays or give me an ankle support?
