Hi, this is my first post in the chronic pain section
I have had severe cramping every month since I was 12, I'm 28 now. My doc says its probably endometriosis. Birth control pills are the only thing that I have found that works, unfortunately I have bad anxiety associated with taking meds, especially when its been confirmed that BCP increase your risk of heart attack and stroke. I am using Mirena IUD now. I was more comfortable with that because its progesterone only and carries less risk. But the instant I got it inserted I knew it was a mistake. i was having severe pain for the next 2 weeks straight. It did get better, but now 3 months later is incredibly painful again. i am getting it taken out as soon as I can get an appointment!
I am going to be elated to have this pain torture device removed, but now I will be back to my regular pains, which in hind sight I would prefer to the mirena pains, but really why do I have to live in pain at all!!!! My doc said the only other option besides going back on BCP is surgery to confirm that its endometriosis and then remove it. Has anyone had the surgery and found it was worth it? I mean, really if i'm too chicken to take pills, i'm not sure how my anxiety will fare with surgery, but I really can't take it anymore.
