Oh Im so glad your church has a food bank! You know I use to look at it like ,well I have a few meals left or I can use kleenex versus toilet paper,or maybe dish soap in the washer, didnt want to take something if I didnt really need it you know? If I could figure out another way but then someone told me once that I should utilize the resources out there since to do so would free up the little money I was spending on those things to maybe pay a co-pay on a med I was not filling,or I could save it up and buy that chair massager with heat that might bring me a little relief. I never looked at like that for a long time. I just made do with what I had and did without if I couldnt afford it,even some of my meds. You would be surprised how much money is freed up if your able to get laundry detergent, toilet paper, and household cleaner, etc.
Also, thoughts about snap denial, they look at life insurance policies and the value of those and whether it can be used to obtain money from a cash in,they look at the value of vehicles owned as well but and you say you have since lost yours? This may have been the culprit when you last applied if you still had those. Not saying you cant own one you just have to prove its medically necessary if its paid for and worth over a certain amount. Make sure you dont say you receive money from outside sources such as your family.
Last but not least you dont qualify in many states if you owe outstanding child support, not saying thats the case as its not my intention to pry by any means just trying to help. You can however petition thru the child support enforcement stating and showing you have filed for SSD and are awaiting a decision and they should be able to lift any sanctions for food assistance for you. Just alittle info.
The biggest thing is keep your chin up and know we all are rooting for you,oh did you read my reply about your local congressman being able to possibly speed up your hearing for hardship reasons? I dont know if your at that stage yet but keep that in mind.
