Hi Rocckyd:
Sorry I didn't respond to your question earlier, I'm still struggling with loads of health issues.
I will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have about the long term steroid use.
Warts are not a side effect of the use of steroid usage, but more from the fact that it lowers our immune systems. Of course, when you add taking immuno suppressive drugs on top of the steroids, then we become so immuno suppressed that we can't fight off viral and bacterial infections off.
I am currently in a research study at NIH, the ID dr there thinks that I have an immunological disorder that I've had since childhood. The hard part is to fit all my symptoms into a DX.
I've been reassured by multiple dermatologist that I can't give my warts to anyone, unless they were immuno compromised like I am. The virus that causes warts is everywhere according to my Dr. People come in contact with the virus all the time, and the average person won't pick them up.
Unfortunately, I'm the one who is susceptible to them. So I wouldn't worry to much about getting them. Just remember to always carry hand sanatizer with you, and use it everytime you get in your car after being somewhere. I keep a bottle of the stuff on my dash, and when I get into my car I use it. Once getting home I wash my hands with soap and hot water.
I know you are going through a really tough time and if I can be of any help just give me a holler. I hope you and your little man are doing alright. I really hope that you start feeling better and have low pain levels this week.
Hugs,
Barbara
