Ok so here is the deal and I know that its probably not a big deal but I am somewhat worried about it.
Basically I get my fentanyl patches (15/month) every 30 days. In December I got them on the 14th, but I had to go in on January 7th to get an early refill since I was leaving for Europe that week and was going to be gone until this week (got back Sunday night 27th). So my doctor gave me a script that I could fill that day (the 7th) for 12 patches (24 days worth) that would be counted from January 14th (the actual refill date according to them.....more on this later) to last until Feb. 7th when I was to go back for a return visit and she said that I would get a script for the remaining 3 patches for the month which would make it until the 14th of Feb. when my next 30 day script would be filled.
However, I just noticed that I will be out of my patches by the 5th of Feb not the 7th. So I checked my calendar, as I always keep track of each day I use a patch from each script, and counted out the days/patches that I was using from Dec. 14th until Feb. 5th. It was exactly the correct amount that I was prescribed.
Then I realized that there were 31 days in December and 31 days in January. Since my doctor just assumed I was going from the 14th to the 14th to the 14th from Dec-Feb, I actually lost 2 days of patch-time (which is 1 patch as I am prescribed to switch them every 48 hours) during those months. So my doctor thinks I should have enough to last me until the 7th but technically since there were 2 extra days in between my scripts I only have enough to last until the 5th.
I rescheduled my appt. from the 7th to the 5th instead since I will be out by that point. Should I bring this up to my doctor when I go in? I don't want to go in on the 5th only to get a script that cannot be filled until the 7th. Not sure what to do. I want to tell my doctor this but I assume she should already know this given that I figured it out in about 5 mins of simple counting and math.
