Aquatherapy did wonders for me. I was prescribed PT years ago after my lumbar fusion and I opted for the water. At that point, in addition to the back surgery, my knees and hips were so painfull that I was very immobile, there was no way they were getting me on a treadmill or mat to do typical back exercises. After a few weeks of 3 x week my knee and hip pain was literally gone and my lower back was well on its way.
Around here it is very difficult to find a facility for aquatherapy, but well worth the drive if you can find a place. After my official therapy ended I actually joined a YMCA with a warm water pool to continue on my own.
DangerDash, with Cerebral Palsy, typically the warm water pool will cause your spasticity to decrease. The great part of aquatherapy is that you can completely control the resistance, which is also very important with CP. The water is pretty much eliminating gravity (resistance) and allowing for increased range of motion of the joints which is much more beneficial than strengthening with CP, in my opinion.
Good Luck to everyone!
