Some of you know I have a pain pump. I have had this pump since June 2005. When I went for my pump refill 4 weeks ago the machine that reads the pump said my low battery alarm was going off. I can't hear it.
I had an appt with the surgeon last Tuesday and I am now scheduled for surgery on Wednesday to get a new pump. Lets hope this goes through without any hitches or surprises.
We will see how this plays out.......Susie

Will keep my fingers and toes crossed for you! It'll be nice when you get the nice new pump and won't have to worry about
anything for a long while. I'm sure everything will be fine. Keep us posted!

Good luck Susie. I'll be praying that everything goes well and that they're able to keep the post surgical pain level down (something that seems to be a battle for everyone as of late). Take care, and keep us posted.

Susie,
Good luck on Wednesday, you'll be in my thoughts and prayers. I certainly hope there are ZERO glitches or problems.
I too wonder will they put your pain meds in right away? Wishing you the best and let us know how you're doing when you can.
Hugs,
Barbara

Susie, you will be in my thoughts on Wednesday! Everything will go as planned - and the procedure will be over before you know it! How long is the new battery supposed to last? I really don't know much at all about
these pumps. Do you have to get a whole new unit inserted every time the battery runs out? How big is it? How is the refill done? Sorry for all the questions, but I've been curious about
these units for awhile and I'd like to know how they work. C:

Susie,
As you already know.... I hope tomorrow goes smoothly... with no complications. While I think having a pump is wonderful, I hate that you have to get it replaced.
Know you'll be in my prayers..... and will be anxious to hear when you are on the other side of getting it done!

Thank you everyone for the well wishes.
Barbara the surgeon will take the meds out of my old pump& put it in the new pump so I will
not have an interruption in the pump meds.
Splash, when the battery dies you get a whole new unit. They are the size of a hockey puck.To refill the pump the pump has a portal that is strictly for accessing with a needle & syringe, totally painless to fill a pump. I am afraid of needles & this does not bother me at all. I would rather have my pump filled than to draw blood. The batteries can last anywhere from 6 to 8 yrs depends on the flow rate setting.
The new pump I am getting tomorrow is a Codman. It does not run off of a battery, it runs off of air. So no more waiting on a battery to die. Its a different set up than Medtronics pumps. You need to be stable with the pump to be a good candidate for a Codman pump.Meaning not still getting increases or decreases in meds in the pump. A lot of drs do not like the Codman because they are more work for the nurse or whoever takes care of it at the drs office. I love the idea of no more surgeries unless the unit was to fail.
Take care everyone.....Susie

Good luck with your pump replacement Susie! I know that you have gotten great help from it, and I pray that your surgeon has steady, sure hands, no spinal leaks and a great outcome that has you up and runnig again for another 10 years or so.,

I had my surgery this morning and it went well. My surgery time was moved up & I was able to get there on time even though they called me at the last minute with the time change. I am doing fine, the pain is just that post op pain but its ok too. The dr did a great job taking care of the post op pain while they were trying to get me awake. For the first time in a very long time, I had a hospital admission that went very well.
Thanks again for all the prayers,I believe those go a very long way for us.
Take care....Susie
