Hell everyone. I hope it is a good day so far for all of you.

I finally had an appointment with md last night, thanjks to the local hospital charity. The physician was actually very nice and concerned. I was prescribed meds that I have read about here but some I have never taken; also unsure of some of the prices.
lisinopril/hctz- for hypertension (Wal Mart for 4$ I think
cyclobenazeprine- muscle realxer (Wal Mart for 10$ I think)
Gapapentin - reduce pain in nerves NOT SURE
meloxicam- antiinflammatory NOT SURE

The internet shows the gabapentin at anywhere from 14$ to over 80$. Mine is for 180 mg 60 tabs.

I know that meds affect everyone differant but I was hoping to get some kind of idea what to expect. Thanks as allways. I am grateful for the support and info I get here. I hope one day to return the favor.

Gabapentin (or however you want to spell it) is very cheap. Don't know exact price as that will vary depending on dose and qty but I would be surprised if it ran you more than $20 a month. You may be able to find some online coupons for this med too.

Meloxicam is on Wal Marts $4/$10 list in the 7.5 and 15mg dose

I get 60 pills of the generic Flexeril (cyclobenzaprine) for $8 at Sam's club and I think it's the same price at Walmart for this one. You do NOT have to be a member of Sam's to use their Pharmacy but I do end up paying for a membership as it gets me even deeper discounts on certain meds and it works out for the year for a LOT of savings.

Are you sure that the hospital charity doesn't have a Pharmacy for you to go to and fill these?

The new free clinic I see has their own Pharmacy but I haven't switched things over yet as I am prescribed all my meds by my PM that I've seen for 7 years now. But at our last appt. we talked about slowly moving things over to the clinic prescribing if we can so I wouldn't have to pay.

So, just make sure before you go to Walmart.

And if all these meds are new to you...just make sure that you do not drive or do anything like that when first taking them and make sure the Dr. has you spacing things out throughout the day. Even though I'm sure you are grateful to have medicinal help now, I'm a bit wary of a Dr. throwing all of these meds at once if you've never taken them previously to make sure each one works well and monitor any side effects.

Most of the time the side effects will abate after a few weeks to a month so I've always stuck it out if there truly isn't an actual allergic reaction or something intolerable.

The key is drinking PLENTY of water through the day as the Gabapentin and the Flexeril can cause headaches and constipation.

Thanks guys; I went to wal mart and my total for the scripts was mid 30$range. The charity did not have their own pharmacy. The md told me that I definitely need another mri. He stated that they could not pay for this but that they could get me a discount from the hospital. He also told me of a possible vocational rehab program that might be able to help with further mri, testing, etc.

I will drink plenty of water. Thanks for the heads up on flex and gab.

The hypertension med also has a diuretic so I'll be sure and drink lots of water. I checked my bp while I was at wal mart, 192 over 126!! Way too high.

I'd suggest you check out Sams Club or Costco, they're both cheaper than Walmart, and you don't have to be a member to use their pharmacy.

Hi Bvl, I am so glad you got to see a dr.. That blood pressure is way too high, that will make a person feel bad when its that high. Have you had problems in the past with high blood pressure? I have been on meds for it since I was 28 yrs old, I come from the bad gene pool, lol. The blood pressure medication he gave you is one of the typical ones used and works well for most people. Hopefully it will work for you too. A good website to look up medications is Drugs.com..

Hi bvl,so glad you got to see a doctor..I know the free clinics aren't anyone's first choice but last month just think,you had no medical care.

The biggest thing to remember is most have to give the neurontin (gapap)time to reach therapeutic levels and time for the side effects to subside.

Hope these meds give you some relief and definitely start the lisopril immediately.
