Hi there...
I was on Cymbalta for about
3 years....I had a bit of this happen, along with insomnia for the first few weeks. I actually had to switch and take the medication at night as within about
8 hours I was WIDE awake so when I took it in the am as first prescribed...I had great trouble going to sleep that night.
Most all the side effects abated within a month. How long have you been on it?
For me it worked very well for my nerve pain.

I have only been on it three days. It did seem the muscle spasm got less on the second night. Thank you.

May I ask if you are taking in the am or pm?
This is one of the few nerve pain meds (or meds in general) to where I had to remember to eat well each day as it suppressed my appetite!
I hope it helps with your pain levels:)

I haven't heard a lot of good about
it. I have the muscle twitches without the Cymbalta, heh.

I have been on cymbalta for two years 60mg pm. It is very effective for my lower back pain. I have to take it at night or i am tired all day.

cymbalta made me have odd disturbing thoughts that i knew were not normal for me, it was very frightening. I stopped after about
6 months and went back to opiates. At first i didnt connect the way i was thinking with the medication, i thought i was just going crazy, and it scared me.
i hope everyone is having a good day, valerie

I had a really bad time with Cymbalta because I have spastic Cerebral Palsy and all my muscles are super tight and knotted and I get really bad spasms.
I just happened to experince the "ataxia" side effect and I lost control of my limbs. My legs woud suddenly feel like they didnt exist and I would fall, or they would seem like they were dipped in concrete and I'd be dragging them along trying to walk.
So I stopped taking it because it was imposible to live like that.

the first thing that was tried on me was cymbalta, but I had to stop after a week because it made my hands shake really bad. At that time, I was working as a dental assist, not a good combination!
Where are the muscle twitches occuring?
Good Luck!

I haven't heard of anyone having any kind of muscle spasms when starting Cymbalta before but I have certainly heard of it happening when people have suddenly stopped, especially when on 60mg or higher daily dose.
Not saying I am doubting you at all, so please don't take it that way.
How much are you currently taking? The reason I am asking is that anything over 30mg/day to start is when the worst of the side effects happen and some people can not tolerate 30mg as a starter dose and have to start at 15mg. Regardless of the starting dose Cymbalta should not be increased any faster than ever 2 weeks, and monthly is even better. It is also one of those meds that have a cumulative effect meaning the longer you are on it the better it works until a full therapeutic dose builds up in your system. This is also why it needs to be stopped slowly.

As it's the only Cox-2 inhibitor left on the market (the earlier ones like Vioxx and Bextra worked well for me) I think I'm going to have to eventually try it, despite the side effects. I see the Rheummy in about
a month, we'll see from there.

LC....I think you are referring to Celebrex....
Cymbalta is not a Cox-2 inhibitor.....It is prescribed for both nerve pain and/or an antidepressant.

I stand corrected, SB. Too many drug names to keep up with. Mea Culpa.

I couldn't take cymbalta either. It also made me have extremely disturbed thoughts and dreams.
Valerie I was scared too. These were not normal thoughts by any means. I had someone even stay with me until I knew the med was out of my system.
I did the same thing on neurontin though. I had encephalitis years back and since then CNS meds do a number on me. I have weird nightmares on many meds, night terrors to some extent. I can't even take compazine or hydroxyzine without literally climbing the walls.
I do not have those problems with lyrica and that effect is one of the reasons I am on methadone versus oxycontin.
