Recovering from pain pump replacement surgery.

Hey everyone. Most of you know I had to have my old pain pump removed last week & a new one put in. My 2nd & 3rd day were pretty rough, and then I started turning the corner. As far as pain goes, I have this deep burning pain which tells me inflammation so I have been taking my handy Ibuprofenv and it has helped. I could take oral Dilaudid, but I just do not feel it will be all that effective since this is more inflammation than anything. I have an appt on the 18th to get my staples out-I am so ready for that.

Good to hear things went well. Praying this new pump works great for a long time. I know what you mean about the staples, I get mine removed on the 20th. I only had them 3 times and have hated them all 3 times.
Hopefully you continue to recover quickly.

Hey Susie! I'm so glad you're feeling better. I'm sure you will continue to feel a bit better each day. And I know it will definitely help when the staples come out! When my fiance was having his staples removed after his transplant surgery, his doctor was telling us how many of his patients would start improving dramatically right after the staples were removed! Btw, how many staples did they use? Hope you're feeling great soon! C:

Hey Susie,
Me too hon! Glad to read that you are feeling better...I think that we tend to feel the worst two or three days after a procedure because all of the anesthesia is out of our system then and now we are lowering our oral doses , too so we tend to feel all of the inflammation and increase in pain more acutely...
Hope each day brings more and more pain relief.

Good to hear from you! Glad it went well, but sorry you're so uncomfortable :(

Is the pump active now or do they wait a certain amount of time after the replacement to put meds in?

Hi Susie.

I am glad that youv'e turned the corner so to speak and are starting to feel better. I hope this new pain pump works well for you and last a good long time! Thanks for the up-date and please keep us all informed on how you are doing. Oh yes I hate those darn staples too! They are a pain to get out, and really a pain while they are in, that 47 staple zipper I had down the back of my neck in Nov of 2010 was just plain misery!  So I definitely can relate to them!  Take care an heal up quickly!

Hi Susie , I have always heard the second and third days are always the worst. I am glad you are feeling better I know everyone is glad to hear from you. I have changed my screen name to make it more personable. I was previously jla1969. I changed once I realized how much I liked the people here and decided to stick with it. Everyone is really nice. I really enjoy it. Hope you have a great recovery... Janet

Lexie asked if my new pump has meds in it, yes,they took the meds out of the old pump & put them in the new one. That way I had no interruption with the pumps. Two days before surgery we refilled the old pump to make sure there would be plenty for the new one. I would not have been able to just get by on Ibuprofen if nothing was in the new pump.

Hopefully this will be my last pump since this one does not have a battery to worry about wearing out. This concept I love because I am at the age of not needing surgery and being put under.

Susie,

Glad to hear the surgery went well, sorry that your having pain from inflammation. I know getting the staples out on the 18th will make you more comfy. I couldn't wait to get mine out when I had my colon surgery, had a total of 50 of the little buggers straight down from chest to pelvis.

You're in my prayers and I hope you continue to heal and do well.
