I am on 20 mg op was on 40 mg and fent patch 75 mgrms Im trying so hard to reduce next to nothing but finding myself very well my quality of life is from bed to recliner back to be sleeping and fatigued the whole time what the hell can it be Im so tired all the time when I was on a high dose i was on the go but now on a low dose Im miserable ,Is the pain making me so fatigued like that ,plz help ,,My life seems to be trickling away.. i dont know what wolf takes fentanyl for but i have to have fentanyl patches everyday. i cant get out of the bed or attempt to walk without it. i will tell you... unless people know me personally, no one can tell that im on medication. the school calls me to come up to my sons classroom and sit and visit with his class for parties. they do not even know that im disabled. when you really need medication, it normally does not have side effects like that..i have never been refered to as a zombie. i can tell you that there is a lot of nice caring people on this website and lots of them are on fentanyl.

When I was on Fentanyl, the only side effect I got from it was the horrible nausea/vomiting.

My antinausea medication actually knocks me out worse than the muscle relaxers and pain medication combined! Lol.

It just goes to show, everyone is an individual and you never know how you'll be affected from one medication to the next.

Its possible the extreme fatigue is a combination of things- the pain, the medication, not being able to be very active etc. Also, you could be waking up several times in the middle of the night due to the pain and not realzing it. That will disrupt the sleep cycles and make it so you feel like you didn't sleep at all.

yes thats true too. i wake up all night long hurting and i even take ambien so that i can sleep the little that i do. pain will drain you. also, just the stress of trying to cut down on meds, pain, not sleeping soundly.

please hang in there... it gets better!!!!!!

I think the pain is making you tired. Decreased dose of a med can certainly make you more tired as the pain tends to trickle back. At the same time, you would think less meds might make you less sleepy...as alot of the meds we take make us groggy and tired.

Hello Wolf and welcome to the CP forum at HW. You will find many compassionate and caring folks here to share their opinions and experiences with you.

Are you attempting to reduce your meds on your own or under directions of your Doc? Is your pain levels less that your not requiring the amount you were on?

The more higher the levels of opiates in your system the larger the increase in endorphins and generally the more energy and increase in your bodies metabolism rates. That good old "fight or flight" system kicks in and many folks if they are not on another med or have slower metabolism will be in a constant state of that fight or flight and filled to the brim with energy!

Im sure you have heard folks say they can get up and clean the whole house or feel like they can run a marathon? They probably can! The point is that its part of the lesser pain levels and part that good old fight or flight system due to the increases endorphin levels allowing for that energy.

When people have had a sudden drop and not gradual drop they seem to be drained of energy. I imagine that it is much like you feel after a good scare or an emergency your faced with,while its going on your hyped to the gills and afterwards you feel a huge let down and are really exhausted.

You can try adding some otc B12 and the sublingual tabs are great for getting in your system fast and even adding a multi vit. As long as your on the take down of meds its important to get exercise and eat healthy meals.

Give your body time to adjust to the situation and it should be fine,takes some time.

Good luck and this happens more then folks think,they attribute it to w/ds and the pain levels and dont realize that decreasing meds is just as strenous on us as increasing them.

I can think of several possible causes for you feeling tired and any one of several of them together may be the reason for feeling so fatigued. These are in no order other than how they pop into my head.

Depression. This could be physical and/or mental and it can be mild enough you don't really realize it but your body does.

Adjustment. Your body is trying to adjust to the new chemical balance due to the changes in the medication.

The pain itself is zapping your energy. Just like when people get the a cold or the flu and have no energy because their systems are both saving energy and redirecting the energy being used from activity to dealing with the illness.

I hope you are under a doctors care while going through these reductions and if the fatigue continues you should consult your doctor about it. In the meantime though eating a very healthy diet and maybe taking some vitamin supplements may help.
