Is somadril addictive?

hello, how are you? Somadril if i had to guess is a compound containing Carisoprodol or "Soma" which is brand name owned by Medpoint or Wallace labs. Carisoprodol is a barbituate like tranquilizer/muscle relaxant/analgesic that is changed to it's active form Meprobamate by the liver. you can google "Miltown" or "equanil" which are old names for meprobamate. carisoprodol/meprobamate is a C4 controlled substance in US. meprobamate may be a C3. carisoprodol is mildly addictive and physical dependency forming but not so bad. most can go a long period with the same dose or a minor raise and get same effect. if you are from Canada and the name "Somadril" is like "Soma Compound w/ Codiene then you have the codiene's addictive properties. most doctors agree carisoprodol is a good medicine that may have a half opioid effect and the barbituate effect. good for chronic pain even w/o muscle spasms. also gives a opioid-sparing effect meaning when it is added a lower opioid dose will provide equal pain relief. good luck with it, i have had good results for almost 10 years with it. Lately, we've had several discussions re: Carisoprodol (Soma, Somadril, etc).

All of these medications have the potential to be "addictive".

Many doctors in the US have put tighter controls on prescribing Soma... as Nick shared - it's broken down in our bodies to meprobamate (years ago - this was a popular tranquilizer)...

Also, it's not recommended to take long term (more than a few weeks) - as tolerance can build.

That all being said, it's an excellent muscle relaxer for many.... I've used it for several years now -- and it's an important part of my pain relief....
