cry Hello everyone, I'm in severe pain from Diabetic Neuropathy in my feet and now it's in my hands as well. It's so bad at night that I can't sleep and it's getting worse. I'm a 58 year old man and it breaks me like a little child. I cry uncontrollably the pain is so bad I want to cut my hands and feet off. I've been dealing with this probably going on 15-20 years now. I was taking 3800mg of gabapenton and that wasn't enough and now I'm on 600mg Lyrica 120mg's Cymbalta and not doing any better. I've had 8 back surgeries and suffer from severe sciatica in both legs and awful back pain to boot. I have a stimulator implanted in my back which I could absolutely not live without and even with all this the meds and stimulator I still have to take a pain pill. frustrated beyond belief. What is the highest dosage of Lyrica that people are taking? This Neuropathy owns my life and I'm not happy with all this. Please if anyone can help in anyway I would be forever grateful. I guess I'm looking for what other people are taking and doing for this. Thank you in advance for any help. Artie sad

Chrome I am so sorry to hear that you are in so much pain. I can't give any advice about Lyrica since I am unable to take those types of medications due to extreme side effects but someone will be along that will be able to shed more light. I have horrible sciatica that runs from my right hip all the way to my toes so I do know how bad that can hurt.

I try to do some walking or other type of exercise each day and some stretching as well as eating a very clean diet now. My miracle drug is actually an anti-inflammatory called toradol. I can only take it twice a week though so it's ibuprofen the other times. I also use flexeril to help relax the tight painful muscles. I really hope that you can find something that works better than what you are taking now. Chronic pain really does affect us in so many ways.

Chrome, welcome here to HW CP.

Your pain story was a hard one to both read and comprehend. You have been suffering so much for so long. I can not give you any direct advice, but glad you found us. You don't have to feel alone in your suffering, you are among kindred spirits here.

Hope something can happen at some point to alleviate more of your pain, and never give up hope.

If you need to vent, get it off your chest, we can handle it.

hello Chrome, welcome to the forum, I am sooooooo sorry for the terrible pain you are having. I have tried everything out there, most dont do a thing. Without Gabapentin I could not stand it. I tried it 2 months ago when I got the fantenal pain patch. I got great help first month. now, i am back on the 3600mg Gaba along with the the patch. i was up almost all nite last niet, which is Not like me. I take 300 mg of Elavil every nite about an hour before I go to bed.

I have no idea why I was in pain last night. We are having some terrible weather and i get horrible headaches which I cannot descripe. All my meds dont do a thing to beat the barametric pressure. When the storm finaly does arrive my headache gets so much less. My feet and hands are both hurting so bad, along with this weather headache today. I am so very sorry you are hurting so bad. people just cant begin to imagine what this nerve pain is like.


when I am hurting so bad I pretend its night time and take the elavil like its bed time. I would swallow a lizard if it would stop this pain. I am happy you found the Hw family forum. I have been helped so much. if the lizard thing helps I will let you know. Very best regards...Cathy

Hello Chrome and welcome to HW. So sorry to see you've suffered so much for so long.

Hopefully you will stick around as you must have so much experience to offer others and possibly find some comfort for yourself and if nothing more you will get understanding.

This is a great forum with some awesome folks and we are glad to have you.

When I feel like I can not stand the pain & exhaustion one more minute I come here & read .. Helps to know I am not alone.

Am so sooo sorry you have so much pain. Hope you can find a combination of meds & therapy to alleviate at least the worst of it.
