Pleurodesis pain

It's been over 3 months since my pleurodesis (fusion of the lung to the pleural wall) which was necessary to stop reoccurring pleural effusions. Last night I kept waking up in pain and difficulty breathing. The x ray didn't show any fluid around my lung although the pain reminds me exactly like the reoccurring pleural effusions. My pulmonary specialist thinks its chronic pain related to the procedure.

Is it odd that this pain occurred out of the blue after 3 months without a pain issue?

I'll bet it's the scarring from the pleurodesis procedure you had and you will probably have some type of chronic pain for the rest of your life.(sorry)I've gone thru at least 25+ pleural effusions and pneumonia's in the last 6yr's. In 2005 I had a thoracotomy and decodication that removed the pleural lining of my left lung and to this day I have chronic pain. Don't forget that a pleurodesis is done by having scar tissue close up the pleural space and that takes time for the scar tissue to grow.. Hope you feel better. RB
