Haven't posted in a while. Been very secluded, isolated and mostly just feeling down.

My pain management dr is moving to a different state. She is going from Nebraska to Colorado.

I have the choice of following her and seeing her every 2-3 months. OR I can research drs around this area and see if I can transfer to them.

Blah. Idk what to do.

To top it all off. Stupid big spiders have been stalking me :( lol I guess that is kinda funny. Idk.

I guess I'm just having a really hard time lately. I'm also stressed as I'm 5ft1 (barely) and in the last few months went from 130lbs to 112lbs. I ballooned up to 160lbs in 2011-2012. Due to multiple miscarriages. Blah.


Sorry everyone. I guess I needed to blurt this all out. I'm kinda attempting to write a book. But I don't think I have it in me anymore. I'm also listening to "the truth about love" album by P!nk. Makes me think about what could have been.

Yikes. I need a kick up the arse. Advice please?????

Hi PerfectDisaster, I'm sorry your feeling down, I wish there was something I could say to make it easier, but feel free to vent anytime, that's what were here for, to listens and provide support. I imagine how stressed you are over your pain doctor moving. As for moving to be able to still see her, that's a very personal choice, one of which I would hate to have to make myself, maybe research other doctors in your area and maybe get appointments to "interview" them so to speak before you make the commitment to move or not. Vent away, that's the first step of helping yourself to feel better. As a fellow writer, I understand a bit of "writer's block". Since my 3rd book was published last year, should have had a 4th finished and ready to go, but with my CP and other health issues, losing that drive. Thankfully, not losing my imagination in my head.

Good luck, and hopefully you will pull out of your own personal funk soon. Life is neither all good or all bad, despite how we feel, so you need to find some of the "good" again.

Hi PerfectDisaster, sorry to read that things seem to be on the downside of things for you at the moment. I am surprised that your dr is not the one looking for a dr to refer her patients to. I say this because most PM drs want a referral from another dr too. You did not say when your dr is leaving the area, but I guess the thing to do now is look for a new dr. That is always a pain having to switch drs.

Isolating yourself is not good which I am sure you already know. Try to get out of the house even if its just to go walking around a store somewhere. I do this to get myself out of the house. I hope things start looking better foe you, if not you may want to consider getting some professional help. Depression & chronic pain go hand in hand. Do whatever it takes to get yourself out of this funk, life is too short being miserable. Take care.....Susie

Unless you're sure of how your treatment will be continued with another dr. I would choose to follow your current dr. Have you asked what will happen if you choose another dr but want to go back to your old one ? Could you still follow her ?

Re: your doctor situation - this same thing happened when I moved from CO back to CA - I had an awesome doc in CO that I continued to see until I found one in CA that was equally as good (took about 4 months or so)....

I would stay w/ your current doctor.... in the meantime, make appointments and "interview" the docs there until you find one that you feel comfortable with.

If you are seeing a PM doc in another state - it does become an issue re: the pharmacies. At least it did for me.

Anyway.... I love P!ink too, lol.... but, for me at least - dwelling on how things could have been just is a time waster.... Focus on the positives of today. I know that sounds cliche... but it's true. As Susie said - pain/health issues - and depression - go hand in hand. So try to get out... focus on happy things... and don't isolate.

Sorry to hear about your Dr. leaving:(

I'm also surprised that your Dr. doesn't have anyone to recommend that you go see? Usually Drs. have quite a few colleagues they know in the same area of practice as theirs. I would certainly try to ask.

Also, this is when FB comes in handy to have family and friends try to help out by posting if anyone knows of a good Dr. to see. You don't have to go into details about your health, just list the type of Dr. you are seeking.

I would also make sure as Tina mentioned to double check with the Pharmacy you normally go to if they accept out of state prescriptions. Depending on what type of medications you are on, some are not allowed to be filled unless the Dr. is in the same state.

I hope you can figure out a solution soon!

Her last day is July 12th, also happens to be my last appointment with her until she is established in Colorado.
The pharmacy I use is Walgreens and the pharmacist is already aware of this and is ok with it.

The dr she actually works with is also a pm dr but we do not get along... Idk. I don't feel comfortable around make drs.

The depression issues is not really an everyday occurrence for me. Its just lately with stress and just feeling fed up I guess.

I want to be able to accomplish all the dreams I have had as a child. I got out of a 5 year long violently abusive relationship when I was 22. I'm happily married. Music and writing are the two main things that I have always had and wanted in my future.

With chronic pain it sucks. I'm 26. I feel like a 92 year old. I just want to have my life the way I want, not the way chronic pain dictates.

Not to go on about the pharmacy thing... but I used Walgreen's as well.... and I did have some issues.... so just make sure you check (and double check) not Walgreen's policies.... but what are state laws.... etc.

I still encourage you to follow your passions.... and the things that make you happy. You might have to "adapt" a few things....

I can only tell you my experiences - I have very complicated health issues (which affect almost every system of my body) and multiple pain issues.... and I'm living a pretty joyful life. It's not the life I intended.... I had make several, hard decisions.... but I've learned to find peace in my "new life". Not everyday is a "happy day" (you can ask many here and they know that!).... but I'm still at peace and find the joy in each day.

I pray you can get there too!

Sorry to hear you are losing your your Doctor.

I am also in Nebraska and have a really great PM Doctor.

Will have to check but know he has more than one clinic location and that he travels among them during the week but think he has a PA and nurse always on site at each one.

They have just been a godsend to me.

My Doctor retired suddenly in February of this year and since this is the only PM clinic in our town, I really had no choice.

Was scared to death but at first appt. was happy to continue me on the same meds my previous MD had me on.

I was so afraid he would want to change meds or hold off giving them to me as some PM docs do.

Anyway, send me an email if you want to and I will give you the info.

My regular PM doctor that I have been seeing exclusively since August of 2007 decided to abruptly leave his practice in December of 2012.

So as of January, I was moved to a certified nurse practitioner - this is in Ohio. Anyway, I was very concerned about the change and was not sure that I wanted to stay with her. This was without even seeing her. I had heard stories about CNP's and I was scared.

I called the office and talked to a few different people on the staff that I have known for years and they assured me that if I saw her and did not like her that I could request to change to the one and only other doctor that I ever saw before. I had only seen him one time, but it was on an emergency basis and he diagnosed my problems right away and took great care of me. I was very happy with his care.

My first appointment with her was in January of 2013 and I had to sign a new pain contract that is actually stricter than my last one and was drug tested. I was also informed that the drug tests will happen approx. once every six months. I have no problem with that as I am totally compliant.

The CNP has actually upped my pain meds as I had a broken foot (in 2 places) and I was also still dealing with some nerve pain issues. So I had my nerve med upped also. Since then, the pain is better controlled and I have managed to be a lot more active and I have started yoga and meditation. BUT, I have also lost close to 20 pounds in about 5 weeks without trying. But I am not going to go looking for it as I could really stand to lose the weight.

Overall, I am a happy patient, but I do feel that now I can back off some on the pain meds and see how I do. I do not have an appointment scheduled with her until July 31st, and my refills will not be due until August 3rd. I have backed off on my meds some on my own and hopefully she will be happy with that when I go back to see her. She has not mentioned anything to me about going down on the meds, she seems to be okay with the level I am on. I am the one that thinks it could be a little too much.

So, you do have a hard decision to make. I was ready to follow my doctor to where he decided to move to in Ohio to practice, but he is now majorly into research instead of treating patients. Good to know that his research is in chronic pain and cancer treatments.
