Yesterday I met with a knee surgeon I had a number of year's ago to get a 2nd opinion on my total knee
revision.
I knew going in that something has been wrong since the surgery and this appointment confirmed that. A month ago
I met with my surgeon who did the tkr revision and he urged me to join a gym to make my legs stronger. Plain view
xrays were great. I am very unhappy that my Dr. has allowed me to be in so much pain for so long and keeps telling
me that everything is okay and that the crunching and popping sounds are just the inplant moving against the
tissue.
Yesterday I had a forced joint xray where they take your leg and pull it then force the joint to open under
pressure to get a picture under fluoroscopy. It appears that the hardware is intact but the plastic components
have too much of a gap which will eventually break down the revision. A piece of metal is is hanging off the bone
and scraping against tissue constantly - that is why I have lateral pain all the time. The medial part of the knee
is where the plastic component has failed. The knee cap is not tracking properly and when knee is bent it is
contorted off to the side. I told the Dr. so I am not crazy and he stated no that this is a significant and real
problem.
I need a new revision. Do I want to go through the pain and suffering with a new revision - NO - but I want to
have a better quality of life.
The Dr. also stated that the implant is supposed to glide and there should not be all the pain and noise coming
from the knee.
Well that is my update. Thank's for listening.
