Has anyone tried Sufentenil?

Ok, I'll try again, without so much info.

I've had a pain pump for almost a year. I'm on Fentanyl which is not working. So my dr. said in two weeks we'll try Sufentenil. It'll be a process of lowering the fentanyl and gradually increasing the Sufentenil.

So what have I got to loose? Another year. lol

Has anyone tried this medication?

I do try & stay positive and find some enjoyment in my life. Sometimes I just can't get there.

"Sufentanil citrate is an opioid analgesic. When used in balanced general anesthesia Sufentanil has been reported to be as much as 10 times as potent as fentanyl. When administered intravenously as a primary anesthetic agent with 100% oxygen, Sufentanil is approximately 5 to 7 times as potent as fentanyl."

Will it be administered by a pump? Hope you find what works for you.

Hi DB, I have a pump too. My question is your dr only using one single drug in your pump instead of a "cocktail"? I have had a pump since 2005 and always have had a mix of meds used for pain control. I have had Sufentanil added before, same as with Fentanyl. Neither of these two were the main pain med though in the pump. I currently have 4 different meds in my pump......Susie

Yes only one drug right now. I've had it nearly a year and have not yet got my pain under control. I wasn't able to tolerate morphine or Dilaudid. The only other thing that was in it for a week was clonidine to try & cut down sweating. But had too many side effects.

I should mention I still take up to 3 Norco a day and flexeril until yesterday. They changed that to zanaflex for sweating.

I'm so frustrated. Never thought it would take this long.
