I was sitting here thinking your big day's coming up this week isn't it? I can't believe you didn't remind us!

I watched the video of one of the other 7 chosen for Team Captain and it was last weeks game I guess? Very impressive young man.

When I read your post telling about it I didnt make the connection at all that you were one of the ones chosen for that! They only choose 7 out of all the cancer survivors to speak at those home games.

I know your not one for beating your own drum but WoW David!

Hope you get to enjoy the game as well and wish I was up north a ways as I would love to be there!

The hospital put a video on their website and Facebook page of the 1st Team Captain that spoke at last weeks game. If we dont get to see the game itself we can probably see the video afterwards.

Didn't post an update here, because all details will be and are on the PC side of HW.

The game will be televised nationally. I doubt you will see any of the ceremonial portions, as they take place pre-game. This event is being filmed by local television stations, and by St. Francis, themselves, and part of it will be on their web page as mentioned.

Not all 7 selected game captains are cancer patients, each person will have a different story and a different malady. In my case, will be the only one with Prostate Cancer, and they wanted me in this particular game, because September is Prostate Cancer Awareness month. Also the only person representing the Oncology Rehab Program.

Still scrambling to get all the logistics in place, the marketing dept. has been slow in providing the small details. Not sure if I will be able to stay the entire game, suppose to be very warm and humid that afternoon, and looks like I will have to leave the house by 9 AM to get there in time for the on the field activities. Not sure I would have endurance to sit that long once the game starts in the open, so we may end up leaving by half time, which the marketing people said was ok with them.

Will be updating the event on the Prostate Cancer forum, so anyone is free to go there and read or make comments.

You can go to www.Greenvilleonline.com and it has info about the Clemson games and captains they have picked to speak. I imagine the same holds true for St Francis web site. Maybe after each game they will have a clip that can be reviewed.....Susie

Just got some disappointing news via e-mail from the Marketing Director. Due to an ever changing schedule, I will not have any opportunity to speak at the game as promised. She said there is not enough time with the other events going on. I will be presented the game ball and photo/filmed before the game start, and during the 2nd quarter, I will be announced along with a bio of myself and my journey, and she said all the stadium giant TV's will be flashing my picture.

However, she said I will still be asked at a later date, to be interviewed in depth on the Weekly Clemson Football radio show. And, she is setting up some additional speaking dates for me soon, on behalf of St. Francis. So all that concern and prep for nothing, lol. I had my speech memorized.

Can we hear (read) your speech, David? I'm sorry that this opportunity won't happen right now but I'm still very proud of you. I'm sure it's one of those "it's an honor just to be nominated" type of things. :0)

It looks like they will have the photographs on the St. Francis FB page as they have them from the Clemson game last Sat. and Johnny who was the Honorary Game Captain.

Then it will link people to the original video that each patient shot for St. Francis awhile back. Reading the St. Francis page, each patient has a different story on their "journey to health and wellness" like Johnny Waldun who was diagnosed at age 19 is now cancer free! And then there will be a patient who had successful weight loss, one with a pacemaker put in that saved her life, and then a man who had hip replacement surgery and is doing great!

Uh oh, from the sound of things it sounds like no box seats in air conditioning and the free food you spoke about. Hmm, sounds like they are taking the red carpet treatment away from folks. Not sure what to think about all of these changes.....

In the original phone call/offer for this, the person I spoke to said lots of things and extras that appearently aren't really going to happen. The person I speak to now is head of the marketing department, I have met her in the past when I was doing film clips for them 2 1/2 years ago.  She apologized for some of the miscommunication.


Just got a late e-mail, and now she is scrambling to get me covered seats, said she would know first thing in the morning, which might mean a last minute scramble to exchange tickets. We will see.

Going anyway, now in 2 separate cars, that way if I can't make the entire game, doubtful, as suppose to be in upper 80s and humid, then the others can stay for the entire game, if I exit earlier. Not going to put myself in another dangerous fentanyl situation, for sure.  But taking 2 cars is create more logistic problems, as I will be parking in a special handicap parking lot, and then taking a golf cart to the stadium.  The campus, is very hilly by nature, and some of the parking areas can be as much as a mile away.

But still honored that I was considered and chosen, that is the part that means the most for me. Will even buy a display case for the game ball to keep as a memento of the event and put it in my study.

Really more interested in helping them do other promotional work, and getting out the prostate cancer message to men.

Stopped by this thread, it caught my eye...Way to go David, proud of you. Hope this will bring cancer to the spot light and how we need to keep searching for cures...Hope you can enjoy the game...What game is it and when will it air?
