Question about getting a student loan discharged.

Hey friends,
I was diagnosed with chrohn's in 1977. I had a resection in 87 and have been hospitalized probably 50 times since w/ surgeries/flares and complications. I've been unable to work since 2009 and now have serious issues with arthritis, vision, severe osteo and the list goes on. I'm waiting for an appeal on a 2nd ssi disabilty hearing. I'm wondering how difficult it would be to get student loan disability discharge. My gastro said he could certainly provide more than sufficient documentation of my inability to work. Have any of you had a similar experience w/ student loan debt and could you possibly pass along insight?

Luckily I did pay the insurance on my student loan and when I was awarded Ssdi I requested the paperwork to get that loan taken care of. I filed it along with the letters from my Drs and it was done within 90 days, now this was early 2000.

It was already in default and that wont change but on my credit report it shows in default and 18 months later shows the payment in full.

You wont know until you try.

I am thinking Jim69 wrote something about this about 6 months ago. Maybe if he is lurking he will see this and post if it was him. It seemed like who ever it was that posted about this, the new changes made it much easier too....Susie
