Hi Sherrie:
I'm sorry to hear that your blood sugar was low. That sounds really low to me, I'm not familiar with blood sugar levels, but I think that considered low. I know when I've been in the hospital on high dose steroids IV, they check my blood sugar 4 times daily.
I believe my lowest was 80 first thing in the morning prior to breakfast. I can't ever remember them giving me anything for that number. I hope that you're able to get more information about the levels and whats happening.
I also see that you're having surgery for a gastric sleeve surgery. You asked about gastric bypass surgery and peoples experience with it. I'm not trying to be a downer here and I think you need to post lupus, but with you're having UCTD you really need to be sure about this.
Butterflake on the lupus forum had gastric bypass surgery. She had serious complications from her surgery, I believe she was in a coma for at least 1 maybe 2 months. If you post of for her she'll give you her story and what she thinks regarding this type of surgery and having UCTD or lupus. Our other member there who had the surgery can't answer your questions, because she passed away due to complications with her lupus and the gastric bypass.
I really don't to come across as Debbie Downer but I also want you to make sure you make a good decision. Any surgeries that folks with auto immune disease can avoid, they should. Having procedures, and most definitely surgeries can set severe flares of our diseases.
A lot of Doctors prefer to only do surgeries on us that MUST be done medically. I'm NOT saying yours isn't medically required, but I just wanted you to make sure your Rheumy is okay with it. You want to make sure that all parties involved with your care are on the same page as your Rheumy and that they have given them all VERY CLEAR instructions as to stress dosing of steroids and such.
Also, if you're currently taking steroids, please be aware that it can cause your healing to be much slower than normal. Like I said put a post in for Butterflake, she'll respond, I believe she had the surgery reversed this year but I'm not sure. I do know she's feeling much better and is now able to eat once again.
Either way you go, you've got my support and prayers that will come your way. Please let us know if you need any help with anything. I hope that you first get the blood sugar issue settled. Good luck with your upcoming surgery and I hope that you're having a good weekend, and not a lot of pain.
Hugs,
Barbara
