? for past butrans users and MS contin users?

Ok here's my problem. Yes I've already took Susie's advice and called my PM whose already gone for the holidays and spoken to a PA without getting anything useful. So I'm thinking "take it to the experts "!!

As most of you know a few months back I stopped 13 yrs of methadone by using the Butrans patch successfully!

I choose to remain on the Butrans for awhile longer to get a "feel " of my pain levels and although it did virtually nothing for pain I stayed on a month after all the effects of d/cing the methadone were gone and without a B/T med as well.

Last Tuesday I had my PM appt to see what choices I had for PM as I had gotten on the methadone due to having weird reactions and side effects to virtually any drug that has a CNS effect.

Had no trouble with the butrans either by the way! We decided to try MS contin again at 15mgs 2xs a day, had previously been tried on 60 mgs 2xs and that was a bust, never woke up for more than an hour a day. High methadone intake caused Dr to make high conversion.

Stopped the Butrans immediately, started MS Tuesday afternoon. Weds morning felt "edgy ", a bit outta sorts? This got worse as the day proceeded and as I went into late night, early Thursday I was evolving into a crying, emotional mess to an extremely wickedly hateful #@*&#.

Knowing I'm doing it, can't seem to bite my tongue! Keeping away from everyone is the solution but it's Xmas!!

The dilemma is what's causing this? The MS? A reaction from stopping the Butrans? A reaction of the Butrans still in my system alongside the MS? A reaction of the MS with something else? Lexapro, lyrica, Indocin, is about all I'm taking.

The PA says, by the way, never heard anything like those reaction or side effects, dont think it's one?? So much help right?

I know many used the Butrans but stopped. Anyone have anything like this occur? Anyone using MS contin have anything like this?

I will see what you guys say and call the office back Monday, maybe get a different PA.

I was on the 5 mill Butrans for 4-5 months.I don't remember any side affects when I stopped using them.

When I was taking Nucynta I was on edge.I actually said a few hateful things to friends and that's not me at all.

Have you taken MS-Contin before?

Thanks guys! Yes I used morphine years ago at a much higher dose and slept all the time.

Humana didnt want to cover the Zohydro without a bunch of garbage and I couldn't and dont want to end up some months without meds while the paperwork gets done.

Besides the "bipolar " effects I've had no other problems! No big pain issues either.

I'm hanging in kinda hoping it will resolve itself. I'm post menopausal and off HRT but all that was brought on by a partial hysterectomy so it's entirely possible I could still be having some symptoms but coincidence that it came back when I switched meds.

You know, some of these opioids can affect our personalities when we aren't used to them. My husband has a horrible back and occasionally I share my leftover b/t med (I know I know) and even he has had anxiety when he takes it (both perc and 15mg oxy). I think it's likely something that happens when we first start taking something and then goes away after awhile. I do know that happens to me if I take my daily dose close together (if I am in a flare I take two at a time). I keep telling myself that I will switch when I see my pm next but I am so afraid that I will end up with something that doesn't actually fight my pain so I am just careful about making sure I don't socialize during the two hours of that two pill dose. It goes away after awhile.

I'm so sorry you're in discomfort emotionally. Sometimes I want to wear a sandwich board that says 'stay away' but...that would be weird. And uncomfortable. Ha.

I was on butrans and definitely did not have that response but I did with nucynta like another member above shared. I think it's the MS Contin. /-:

Thanks everyone! It seems to be getting better and I'm plateauing out on the morphine. Im inclined to think it was somehow related to the Butrans still present after removing the patch? I did keep seeing warnings that it could react with anti-depressant meds in just such a way but why after 2 months?

Anyway like SS said they just dont seem to understand the medicine and are really sketchy about long-term use and side effects. Im not sure they even understand how it work's they just know it does.

So for now keeping my hopes riding on the MS Contin and the fact the Butrans should be almost gone!

It's at present a wait and see game.
