It can. It depends on what you're taking it for prn.

I've looked it up on several different medication sites, and it looks like it doesn't have to build up in your system like allot of the others do. I know some of the antispasmodics you have to take for a while before they become affective. Every thing I have read on Flexeril it looks like it is effective right away.
I would suggest you talk with your pharmacist about
it, I am sure they would give you the best information about
it. Personally for me I never had any luck with it, and I didn't like the side affects I had with it. But I hear allot of people have good results with this medication.
Good Luck, Hope it helps you!

I'm guessing it must, to some degree, because after my back surgery, my surgeon told me he had injected me with Neurontin to thwart potential post-op spasms.
Can't stand the stuff personally, and have had icky side effects from taking it.
But,...I'm gathering that if the surgeon uses it after a procedure, no "loading dose" is required? I'm really not sure, however, and my experience on this med is less than positive.

Personally I take half the lowest dose (1/2 of 2 mg) of Valium (diazepam) for PRN muscle spasms. It's the best muscle relaxant there is and very few reactions. It stops my occasional leg twitches and back muscle spasms through the night if I take it at bedtime. It's easy to get hooked on benzodaizepines so I only take it when I absolutely have to, not even once a day.
Neurontin is on my "don't take" list because after taking it at low doses for 6 months it caused me to have apnea episodes - unable to get a breath.
Flexeril gives me serotonin syndrome because I also take tramadol. An antidote for the syndrome is a benzo, Valium - Rx'd by my PCP. If you do ever get this though, go to an ER immediately. It's life threatening. Having had it, I call my doc and he tells me to take the Valium, and I've been fine every time.

I've had the same responses as Alcie with regards to the meds in question.
I also do the same thing when I get spasms, (1/2 a tab, sometimes even 1/4), and it works much better without the nasty s/e's.

While it can be used prn, it does tend to be sedating for most.
FWIW, Baclofen has become my day-time prn muscle relaxant because I'd be asleep in 30 minutes with the flexeril.

Flexeril makes me so drowsy so only take at night, had to get up at 4am to take another as my back and neck were flaring up so badly, going to try 1/2 tab during the day.

hi lumiere. i take flexirill 3 x a day. and i can say it does work for me. i beileve i'm on 15mgs x3 daily.
knock on myhollow head i haven't had spasms in quite some time. maybe i should knock on wood.
i fiirst started taking them back when i was working. i'd wait til i got home before taking one because they pretty much knocked me right out. but over time i developed a tolerance for them. never any addiction issues. even with the higher tolerance they still keep me from having spasms. good luck to you. hope this was helpful..
