Hi everyone, I have a question. Has anyone tried amiltryptilin . For neuropathy? I went to a new neuro and she wants to take me off the gabapentin. That seem to have stopped working and put me on that. Im kind of afraid to try it. 25mgs. I just need to find something im getting so depressed. I read someplace ut can cause neuropathy.

Yes, this medication is used to treat pain and migraines and depression, ect...usually adult dose is 75mg for pain. For more info I urge you to go to www.drugs.com. Also is your doctor weaning you off the gabapentin, you should be weaned off one medication before starting another. I guess I just don't get why a doctor wouldn't take you off a medication slowly...what is it with doctor's do they forget??? Try this new medication as it might help you and slowly come off the other medication....

Thanks, ill give it a try. I dont get drs either. She tells me to try accupuncture as they have one in the group so when i try to make an appt. They tell me May is the soonest. Unbelievable. She said not to stop the gabapentin. But will try to wean me off. Im taking 1400 mgs a day. I think it just stopped working. I was sleeping better and now im awake with the pain and burning again. I have to work and cant be up all night. My entire body feels like its on fire. Simetimes i feel like the med makes me worse,

hi nisissy. i too have neuropathy and experience quite a bit of pain with it. i'm currently on a 2400mg
diet of gabapentin and overall it really doesn't do a whole lot for me. i will be curious as to how things work out for ya. good luck to you and keep us posted.....

Char is right. It's an older and different class med but when the neurotic,lyrical,cymbalta stop working many ppl have good luck with the amitrip.

So give it a try and good luck.

Hi!

I'm on Amitriptalin (sp?) And I take 50mg every night before bed. It works really well for me. I'm sorry you are in so much pain, I hope they find a tx plan that helps you!

:-) hanks for the replies. I certainly will keep you posted as to how the amiltryptiline works for me. I  hope it does. The Gabapetin just seems to have stopped working. I dont know whats worse, the pain or the tingling that wont stop. I try to keep busy to take my mind off of everythng but sometimes you just cant. Of course its always worse when you try to sleep. Well it's 11:30 pm and I took a pill about an hour ago so it should be working soon. I guess I will try to get some sleep. Wishing you all a pain free day.
