UPDATE: finally heard from her and she has been exhausted. Its so hard to worry about family and be unwell yourself.

Brother got moved to a room as he is still confused and she said constantly trying to climb out of bed regardless of rails and bed alarms so I think they are trying to stay with him as much as possible. Evidently the unit he was on wants to transfer him to a skilled nursing facility and the family and the case manager have different and confusing thoughts on that.

That is always a difficult decision to make.

He still needs therapy and to heal some more so thats the reason they are suggesting this move.

Susie was headed back up to see what is going to happen and she will check in later.

She appreciates everyones caring thoughts and prayers.

New Update: A new Neuro took a look at his MRI last evening since he seemed to be regressing and actually found a bleed that had been previously missed. They want to use bore holes to relieve the pressure as its causing swelling and pressure on a nerve thats effecting the left side of his brain and therefore weakness and confusion.

Susie is keeping vigil at the hospital so she is exhausted and falling into bed.

Thank goodness for second opinions as he could have been discharged with a bleed to a nursing home. No doubt prayers have worked.

Thank you for the updates!

I continue to keep both of them in my prayers. As you said, it's difficult to try to take care of your own mending while also caring for a beloved family member. It's no wonder she's feeling tapped.

Please thank her for finding the time to reach out to you and OK these updates. And thank you Vickie for letting us know...

I've seen the strength-in-numbers when the HW family sends prayers and I, personally, have great faith in that!

Thank you everyone very much for the thoughts & prayers. Please keep them coming, the surgeon reviewed the MRI & says the surgery is just too risky for my brother & he does not recommend it. He thinks in time the swelling on the brain will go down. He says he has a very long road ahead of him. He has a history of previous bleeds from two accidents, I have to believe he will pull through again. Will keep everyone posted through Vickie.

Vickie has done a fantastic job taking care of the forum by herself. She is going to need a vacation when I get back here.

Update: Susie's brother was transferred to a Nursing home late yesterday. He has however continued to climb over the bed rails and fell several times. The facility doesnt have bed alarms for some reason so they currently are trying to locate one on their own.

His wife told Susie he smiled when she got there this morning and she seemed to see something like recognition in his eyes that hasnt been there since his accident.

The Drs are still saying his conditions guarded. So please keep him in your prayers.

I'm hoping that sign of recognition is a good indicator that things may be getting better.

I have to admit, I was taken aback when you said this facility doesn't have bed alarms. To be honest, I thought those were pretty standard.

They were when I was still working!! Pretty necessary on Alzhiemers units and head injury. They are not allowed to use physical or chemical restraints so those alarms were much needed to prevent injury.

I told her to try the medical supply stores.

Susie is taking turns sitting with him as he continues to be confused at times and climbs out of bed. She said he is responding more to them but they have to urge him to eat. So she is exhausted by the time she gets in but hopes to be able to return some next week.

Her and the family appreciates all the prayers and your thoughts during this difficult time.

Still thinking of Susie and her brother. They both remain in my thoughts and prayers....

Hopefully she'll be able to join us soon and things will calm down for the family.

Its been a real trying time getting through this. My brother is making progress we think. He has started using his right hand to eat. Its a struggle for him but he is trying. The major bleed is laying on top of the central nerve path that controls the right side. We have been told as the swelling of the brain starts going down that they usually regain the use of the afflicted side. Now, if the right leg will start working that would be wonderful. Please keep him in your prayers.

He is still confused a lot but they say this is typical of a brain injury. He may know who we are & even will say a sentence or two that makes perfect sense & then he wonders off not making any sense. He does not know where he is at & the nurses tell us he will not remember any of this which I hope he doesn't.

He gets very agitated & it seems like he starts struggling with his thoughts when he is trying to remember something & can't. The dr wanted to put him on something for anxiety but his brain has not healed enough for that & he decided against that.

Its going to be a long road to get him back. We appreciate everyones thoughts & prayers.

Thanks a million everyone for the prayers. I am getting really irritated with this place where my brother is at. We have some problems going on & every time we ask if we can do this or that to help its always NO. This is beginning to wear on me big time. I wanted to buy a bed alarm oh no they do not use them or allow them. It is like hitting a brick wall. I can have a nasty temper & I know I have to be very careful because the end result would land on my brother & I know this.

I just hope we can all maintain while he is there. It is going to be a long recovery for him without any question. It is like a nightmare. Please keep him in your prayers.
