Question: I was just prescribed fentanyl patch 12mcg. 72 hours in PM Dr told me to put two fresh ones on as my pain was out of control. Today was 24 hour mark. Although I'm doing MUCH better, I got out of the shower tonight and noticed one was GONE!!! I found it in the shower floor. My question is this : do I stick it back on with a bandaid or put a new one on?? I'm freaking out thinking my PM dr is going to be mad. I've been with pain management for 3 1/2 years and have never had any problems whatsoever. Thanks in advance :)

Hi Sonshine! Welcome to HW/CP! Don't try to put the one that fell off back on. I would call your doctor's office first thing in the morning and ask them what to do. I know waiting is hard when you're in pain, but it's better to be safe and not do anything until you talk to someone in the office. You should also get the coverings that they make for the patches because they'll just keep falling off in the shower (mine always did anyway!). (Try to) have a peaceful night....

hi there sonshine. welcome to healingwell. yea i wouldn't worry too much about it. thats what i'd do is call my pm office in the morning.

I would also get some tegaderm films. They are expensive at the pharmacy but you can get 100 for $30 on amazon. I have been on fentanyl patches for four months and I have never lost a patch. It is a clear film that goes right over your patch.

Thank you so much. :) Talked to PM today. She said just put a new one on. :)) I have some "OP site" I dug up from my hubby's last surgery (he came home with an open wound) , so I got that sucker covered now! I see all kinds of people over the past three years of pain managment, and my biggest fear is having pain managment think I have "drug seeking behavior." Hubby says I worry too much about it lol.

Hi Sonshine, you did the right thing by calling your dr. With things being so strict these days with pain mgt it's always best to play it safe rather than be sorry later. Because you had to use that extra patch that will cause you to be short one too.

When in doubt always call your dr. Take care.

Thank you Susie. Honestly if I hadn't found this site I would been a nervous wreck all night on what decision to make. I wasn't concerned with running out as I knew I have to go Monday for them to change my script to the 25mcg. But yes pain management is very very strict, or at least the one I attend is.

Hi again, Sonshine! Just wanted to make a suggestion. Any time a patch falls off, hold on to it (but fold it in half and either put it in the original package or saran wrap - something like that, then secure it somewhere until your next appt.). That way you have it to show your doctor, if needed.
