Monday Check-In

Good morning to everyone! Well it's Monday again and I hope everyone had a good weekend and the last of April brings you lower pain days!

This is the place we stop in and say hi, tell us how your weekend was, what the week ahead has in store for you! If anyone needs prayers, well wishes or just a little extra healing thoughts please let us know.

Prayers first to the folks across the Midwest, the families of the lost and missing, and may the recovery be swift and successful.

Second to our members who have lost a love one this week, facing surgery, and recovering from surgery.

Shout out to all those lurking, please drop in and tell us a bit about yourself. We would love to have you join us.

Glasses! First time in nearly 70 years, except for the mildest of readers for computer. I can only see out of a small bit in the middle, not the same area for each eye. Distance is't too bad but the reading is so awful I can't stand to wear them. The computer screen seems to be twisting, nothing in focus no matter how I turn my head. How am I going to be able to try for a whole week to "get used to them?"

First off Alcie how in the world have you managed to go so long without needing glasses? I got my first pair of glasses when I was in forth or fifth grade, and I needed them for a few years before that! When I first got them they opened up a whole new world to me, and every since that time they are the first thing I put on in the morning and the last thing I take off at night! Just before I turned forty I needed bifocals so I could also read and see things close up while wearing my glasses, and just last year when I turned 62 I had cataract surgery (WOW what a difference that made! I did not realize that everything I was seeing was a dingy yellow, I got my first cataract removed, I had what they call lemonade cataracts they made the lens of my eye yellow and streaked) When they replaced with a new clear lens, I found that white is really white! Ha) It was kind of weird at first till they did the second eye, because when looking through one eye everything was dingy yellow and through the eye with the surgery everything was really bright and white! Anyway it might take you some time to adjust to wearing spectacles but I am sure with time you will get used to it! Good Luck to you!

Caren I have had the nerve block in the upper back of my neck to relieve the head ache in the lower back of my head. It helped some but only a couple of weeks. They found that mine was caused by arthritis that had destroyed the articular joints at C3. They fused the articular joints at C3/4 and put in rods and pins, and it helped me allot, but it did take quite a while to recover from that surgery!


Nothing scheduled this week, other than taking my dog in to the groomer and me getting a dental check up! Next week I hope to find out about getting the pain pump as I have the neuro/psych testing all done..

White Beard

Hey, I am still here. Weekend was a mix, mostly crappy as usual.

Was hoping to try Zohydro soon because I have been on plain compounded Hydrocodone for the last 6 years or so. Figured it would save me some $$$ plus the extra trip each month to hand deliver the written prescription to the pharmacy because they won't even start making it till they got the paper in their hand. Then I go back to pick it up a couple days later.

But now I found out that Zohydro is nearly triple the price what the compounding pharm. charges to make it! Over $800 for one months worth. Crazy,huh? We all know the materials are cheap, apparently Zogenix wants to make a lot of money before it goes generic.

Monday finds me in bed after a very productive weekend: lots of walking and even over seeded the lawn. Too much weekend, I guess.

I started the Fentanyl patch last Saturday and wow! It has really made a difference.

Had the spinal nerve blocks again. It's still hard to tell if they helped. If they have, it's just been for a few days. At patient portion of $800 a pop, I wish I knew!

Today started my second week in the new house...this past weekend was go go go...ran errands and sat in the car a combo of 9 straight hours on Friday. Then did it for 5 hours on Saturday. At last but not least...We had 7 of my boyfriends family members over so they could see the house and we could have a cook out.

Needless to say, when I woke up this morning...I felt like I'd been run over by several mack trucks. And they didnt have the 10mg oxycodones in stock at the pharm. So I'm running on the 5-325's only. I've been taking a self mandated (and doctor aware) break from all time release meds. I've come to the conclusion that that will absolutely change come my next appt in the middle of may!

Oh...AND...my mom has officially moved in...she has her own bedroom/bathroom and I'm *hoping* we can co-exist without too much intermingling. Every now and then is fine, but we went into this with it clear that my boyfriend and I will come and go, and live our lives. And so will mom. Roommates. We'll see how long that lasts.

I think that's it...just explaining it all has made me feel overwhelmed all over again!!!
