trigger thumb surgery

Hi. I am new here and have been reading many posts. I would like to thank those who have left very helpful notes.
On July 31, I will be having surgery on my left thumb. It is currently in a locked position & I have to "guard" it constantly. If not, if becomes dislodged and I have to use my other hand to put it back into place. Yes, it hurts.
I've also had the shots for de Queverain's. Believe me, that hurt.
Does anyone have suggestions for healing post op? I am active and love to hike etc.

Maybe get a wrist brace and place it in the freezer, but don't rely on it much as you'll need to move your hand to keep it from freezing again...Ice packs for the first 24 hours to help speed up healing, maybe some of that manuka honey for the incision site. Plus follow all the doctor's orders and ask loads of questions like how often do you need to move your thumb? and when to start moving it and when to start physical therapy...Many prayers and well wishes for a speedy recovery!

I have had that surgery on both thumbs. The recovery is not very difficult. My hand was wraped up until the stitches were removed but I could still move everything. I was told to keep it elevated and ice it for several days to kept the swelling down. If it weren't for a snow storm after the first thumb was done, I probably would have gone back to work after two days. I teach preschool. There would have been limitations, but I was oked and would have been able to work.
