Dear All. I am new to this site but after reading some of the posts re chronic pain after rectal surgery I felt compelled to share my story, which looks like a familiar one. Have had crohns for many years after numerous resections, a colostomy and ilieostomy. After 10 years of reasonably good health ( and a very high terrance got pain after crohns and operations) they spotted cancer in the rectum and after detection, within 5 days and a robotic procedure my rectum was removed. Unfortunately despite being very robust after crohns and many many ops, have had chronic unbearable pain for close to 8 months after surgery and could not sit, walk, have sex, and was in constant severe pain . Doctors appeared to be baffled, scans don't spot anything and they give me the impression that they are baffled and that even I may be exaggerating symptoms. After reading other posts it looks like nerve damage and chronic pain is common after this surgery so am not sure why they are surprised. Anyway after taking endone as well as over the counter painkillers nothing helped, was given antibiotics which didn't do much. Last few days I went to a naturopath who advised to have magnesium tablets and also bathe in epson salts. I also had reiki done. It's been two days now and I have had no pain- the first relief in 8 months. It's heaven and I hope it lasts.
