Knee: Get nerves burnt or new knee

My pain doctor wanted to burn the nerves around my knee due to no Cartilage left. I went to orthopedic who did gel injection. It has been a few week and I still have knee pain. Orthopedic doc said if it didn't work they would look into knee replacement and he would do that before burning nerves. So should I go ahead with nerve burn or go for the replacement?

Did you only have one injection and was it synvisc? Sounds as if that's what they did and it generally takes several of those to see any response or change.

Nerve ablation may or may not work and won't last forever. If you don't mind how old are your knees? Replacement is a big step but sometimes the only option and sometime can still leave you with pain. Therapy post op is pretty extensive so be prepared for that and how well your recovery goes depends on it.

I would definitely get a second opinion before doing anything.

Yes it was the synvisc one. I just read I need to give it a few more weeks .That it can take up to 6-8 weeks for full effect.Someone also wrote on another site that they got a cortisone shot a little while after and it kinda helped kick it in. So I'll make another orthopedic doctor apt. in about 4 weeks and go from there. I'll be 50 this December. The Orthopedic doctor did say they don't like to do them this young cause it would probably need replacing in 15-20 years. But he said they would do it if this doesn't work because they are so bad. I am sure they will insist I lose some weight first. Which is bound to be interesting on how to go about doing that when most exercise is out do to chronic pain in knee and back .

One thing I'd question (and I admit straight up, I'm not well informed when it comes to knee stuff in the least!)....even if the pain is managed through injection, has your doc given you any indication as to how much damage being done to the actual mechanisms of the actual joint that will be done over what period of time?

(Asking because I'm clueless and curious)
