Help with Cuts and when to go to the ER

Got a nasty cut today, bled for about 2 hours on my right thumb, it did stop finally but it is deep. but small. Plus it's in a hard place right in front of the nail bed. I did get a little light headed...I just hate ER's , cut re opened this evening but is under control and gauze wrapped.
When would you go to the ER for a cut???
Er, urgent care, or an appointment if possible with MD?
(Not a cat scratch or bite, for those I would see my MD)

I held my hand over my head with applied pressure for the better part of an hour, trying to get the cut to stop bleeding...

What do y'all do for cuts like this, it's still painful. I'm hoping it doesn't get infected...it has been washed good... If I can keep it from re opening I think it'll be good...getting dizzy now, so I'm off to lie down...

Do you have a doc in a box near you that you could go to? That would be what I'd do in that situation.

I would go to an Urgent Care type place just to have it checked out.

First I pinch the wound closed. Then I put a piece of tape over the cut, pulling it tight to keep it from opening. Just wrapping doesn't always work. Keep the tape on for several days until it grafts itself together.

Tore open in the night and bled some, going to ask the pharmacist about what to try next. I might yet call the doctor, I don't have a fever so that is a plus. I don't have any medical tape, someone said liquid bandage...not sure about that.

You may want to get some butterfly strips & try those. Thumbs can be difficult with cuts on keeping the skin together.

My son had a very nasty cut this summer but was out of town fishing when it happened. I made him go to er as soon as I saw. They said it needed stitches but due to waiting over 24 hours he could not get them. He got antibiotics and a tetnus shot a was on his way.

Bandaid adhesive is burning my uncut skin so cannot keep a bandaid on...it's a cloth bandaid... trying black pepper as it's a good natural remedy...and wear non latex gloves... allergic to latex...hope to feel better tomorrow

Chart or anyone else do not laugh at this remedy of mine it works. I have psoriasis & have outbreaks on my hands quite often. The skin splits open on my fingers when this mess hits & it take forever for these splits to heal because they constantly break open. I use super glue & it works, burns like fire for a couple of seconds but it works, lol.

Super glue works very well. I'm a mechanic and use it all the time.

Thanks everyone, for me getting a wound is hard to get healed...

I tried the liquid bandage and it peeled off 5 hours later and re opened the cut. Black Pepper worked over night Friday night into Saturday and so far it's healing...finally...I would've gone to the doctor today or on Saturday had it not finally started to heal...what a horrid cut, jagged and mostly under the finger nail bed making it harder to cover, bandaid tape caused a burn type wound on the backside of my thumb so in the end it was black pepper and leaving it un covered to heal. Can't use glue as I have allergy response to that as well and it causes really bad itching...So it was either black pepper or stitches...I had a wound on my wrist before it was a 1/2 cut, used a plastic bandaid and that wound went from being 1/2 inch to being a very red 2 1/2 inch wound overnight and at the doctor getting an oral antibotic and leaving the bandaid off period...
My mom used that red iodine on a wound I had once long ago and I remember it hurting and burning, really hated that stuff...
