Osteoporosis treatment while trying to fuse

It is me again, C4-7 ACDF at about 4.5 months. I just had a new DEXA scan to check on my osteoporosis and my bones are 8% worse than 2 years ago! I am really down in the dumps.

I had tried fosfomax and boniva in the past and wasn't too pleased with the side effects (but sounds like I may have to deal with it at some point). So the doctor suggested reclast, which when I looked it up sounded like some pretty scary stuff! So there is that issues, what to take when I am ready.

The other issue is that I have read that the the osteoporosis drugs can inhibit full fusion. And of course, that is my #1 priority right now is to fuse my neck! I get my next X-rays and will talk to my neuro next month but would not mind any input from any of you all out there.

Vote number 2, hold off as long as you can before starting any of those meds for the osteoporosis. That amounts to 4% a year, let that fusion have at least a 12 month anniversary, 18 months would be even better. I have that mess in my entire spine because of of heavy & extensive steroid use. First line treatment for crohns disease & of treating CP. I got it very young & we had no idea until they did my first scan at 50. I went from 5"2" to 4"11"......

TallerNow, I did an injection for a year with one of those drugs. It was super expensive, had I not had good insurance it would not have happened. My prior PM dr was a retired neurosurgeon & she is the one that got me on this treatment. I gave myself the shots but right now I am going blank on the name of it. She said this medication actually promoted bone growth where all the others just slow down the progression. I just remembered the name Forteo. I went blank for a couple of minutes, lol. Look it up on Drugs.com. It a one time deal only, take it one year & thats it. The shots came in prefilled pens & since I was already doing Humira injections it was no big deal for me.
