My 5 mg opana that I was using for BT pain hasn't been working, so I asked for a change to 10 mg, which my PM doc agreed with. But UGH, the 10 mg is making me SO nauseous, I don't think I can deal with it.

My PM doesn't really get spooked by asking for a change, as long as you're not insistent about a particular med. I am wondering what you would do, ask for the dosage to be reduced back to 5 mg, or ask for a different BT med? Thoughts?

BTL...Do you have Zofran for the nausea? That SE could just be temporary...not sure. The MS Contin caused me nausea to the point of lying in the bathroom floor. I heaved so hard I tore the cartilage in my rib cage. The nausea subsided with Zofran, but ultimately I had to stop the MS Contin. I was having IBC to the point of bowel obstruction.

I don't claim to be a medical professional...just my personal experience...but what would happen if you broke the Opana and took the 2 halves with yogurt in your tummy? I realize that breaking PM meds is not normally advised. However, my PM won't write for 4/day Oxy @ 120 per month. He writes for 60 per month and tells me to break them in half and take as 15 mg (halves) 4xday.

I had to take TWO zofran to calm the nausea that I had. I'm afraid to take it again because I felt like complete poo! No pun intended, lol.

Opana can't be taken with food - an hour before or two hours after a meal. I hadn't eaten for a while though when I took it, so I know that's not what caused it. I was taking 5 mg 4x/day before, and that wasn't strong enough, so breaking them into two would just be the same, but, I suppose I could do that rather than go back to the lower dose itself. The pills aren't scored, though, and I always end up losing half of it when I try to cut them.

Is the Oxy IR what you're talking about?

OOPS...Didn't realize the Opana is not to be taken with food.  If you have good communication lines with your doctor or FNP, perhaps give them a call in the a.m.  You're correct in that breaking the 10 mg in half...my BAD IDEA, though I meant to say...oh well.  I'm not familiar with Opana.  I just know that I have horrid gastric issues that affect any and every med that is oral, including cough syrup.  It's a bee-otch.  The stress of starting PM this year continues to "stoke the fires" of these darn shingles in my eye.  I saw my PCP today...back on mass doses of anti-virals and steroid eye drops for 7 days.  I'm not sure which is worse...cause or cure?

Yes, Oxycodone IR trial is what I am doing until/unless I can find a way to afford OxyContin.  I honestly can say that thus far my PM experience has been the thing that nightmares are based on.  I'm a-sk-e-e-e-red=(

is it Opana IR or ER? The ER made me so sick too, but I think it was the OP formula that makes it "abuse proof". if you had enough relief with the 5mg its always worth trying again, but if not I wouldn't be afraid to ask for a different med. I did great with the oxycontin if your insurance will pay for it(mine will not). You shouldn't have to suffer with the GI issues, and 10mg of opana may just be too much for you. If your using Er, they do have a 7.5, maybe that would be an option?

The 10 mg is the IR med, which is the same strength I've been taking in the ER for several months. I'm calling the doc today to see what he thinks.

I will be discussing Opana IR 10MG with my PM Dr. in 3 weeks. Not many people get sick on the IR version of Opana that I've read so far. Now the ER of anything, that's different since binders are used so it takes a lot longer to break down.

I switched back to the 5 mg. The 10 was making me way too sleepy, and still nauseous.

Hey BTL...Is that what your doctor suggested when you called today?  If so, I hope everything works out for you.  I'm concerned, though, especially with upcoming holidays.  We all have a tendency to overdo, thereby suffer even MORE.

I asked my doc if I could change back. Of course he said yes, I don't think any PM doc would say no to reducing a dose, lol. I have a good supply of THC caps right now, they were on special, so those are helpful in a pinch. Thanks for your concern, Dixie, you are so sweet.

My company is going to terminate me because of my illness. I have to go back full time or be terminated. I was currently on FMLA part time, my doctor and I are trying to find a drug to help me.

BTL...My husband SO wants me to access those capsules.  I would certainly try your method if available, as long as I experienced no eating binges.  I fear increased appetite=)  However, I find great humor in the first couple of seasons of "Wilfred".  I even had the costume for Halloween in 2013...no true apparatus, though.

I remain, as always, concerned for you, Babygirl...I feel a connection.  Hope you find answers, but HOPE is never a plan in my world.  I'm so freaking stressed over the upcoming holidays, the shingles are consuming me=(

I'm sorry about your situation.  I certainly understand the stressors of high paced career with debilitating pain.  I thank God every day that I've grown "long in tooth" enough to work contractually...on my own terms.

I hope you find answers, sweetie=)
