In the world of pain management, you can not EVER share your meds. They are yours and yours alone, so I am not surprised that the doctor was upset that your husband took one or any of meds prescribed to you.
If you or your husband were getting medications for pain, then he/ you has to contact the doctor, before filling any prescript
ions for pain medications first. It doesn't matter if it is from a dentist or an ER.
Filling prescript
ions early is a huge no no as well. If your husband was getting meds from multiple sources, you "shared" meds with him, which is illegal and dangerous, your breakthrough meds aren't showing up in urine testing is a big problem.
Did you bring the bottle to show that you had all of the breakthrough meds? If not, and they don't show up in the testing, the doctor and nurses are going to be suspicious.
The things that have occurred would have gotten a patient dismissed in most pm practices.
Going to the ER for chronic pain is not considered an emergency . It is best to try to manage flare ups at home, using your medications ,ice, heat, rest etc.
