When I have had problems/issues with the staff at one of my doctor's offices, I use to tell them to put what they said in my OV notes for my doctor to address. So when I went back or inquired with the doctor, if there was not any note of any instructions/or comments that a nurse made to me, sorry but I waited until I went in to see the doc. I told him and we had a mutual understanding about his staff and in order for him to believe me/and to witness the nurses telling HIS patients wrong treatment or advise, he could see it in black and white. He was fine with that. This situation happened to me a lot, this was a clinic with about 5 doctors, each assigned a nurse but they seemed to rotate with the needs of the clinic.
You have to be your own patient advocate in your treatment. I remember I had this one doctor with a GOD complex, he called me one night and chewed me out for calling him - he told me he was sick and tired of answering call backs, he had too many patients and not enough time to deal with them all and that I was "bothering" him!!!!!
Keep in mind, I was calling because I was having a difficult time with a med he gave me and was experiencing some really bad side effects (you know the kind where your supposed to be notifying your doctor right away). He then went on to tell me that he had no life, and that I was dropped in his lap from another doctor who left the practice. I am not kidding you, it was by far the worst call I had ever had from a doctor or medical staff person.
So what did I do........................... I reported his a#$ to the state medical board and filed a complaint!
Anyway, please be sure to check your state law as far as recording the conversations, you want to do the right thing in the right way!
