Less surgery then original plan

Thanks Susie and Abilene. Yes I am so excited with my new surgeon. A huge relief, I have been worried sick about trying to recover on my own, and still take care of my dog. So I am very happy.
For those who did not see my post on my other page. My new neurosurgeon has determined I was to have too much surgery by my previous surgeon. I am now down to get 1 level ACDF with a cage. Will be getting the date scheduled next week for later this month.
He told me I do have some irregularities but nothing that is causing the current problem. Said there was no need to tinker around there, and I may never need to have anything done at those levels.

excellent. if it aint broke don't fix it!!!! may your surgery be successful and bring you comfort. second opinion never hurts, sometimes it does because we didn't get the other opinion. many healing thoughts.

You know I am just so happy that you chose a neurosurgeon too. We see so fewer complications in these surgeries when there is a good neurosurgeon involved. When they started using all of this hardware in cervical & lumbar fusions it seemed that the post op for the patient was much better when they had a good neuro do the surgery instead of an ortho. Over the years I cannot tell you how many of these surgeries I have seen done by both type of drs. So many of our clients would end up needing surgery.

So very happy to hear that your surgery will not be as extensive as originally thought.  It makes you wonder about those who don't get a second opinion, doesn't it?  Nevermind, let's not.  It's too disheartening. 

I've been kind of "off in the ditch" myself, so not "up to speed".  I just wanted to stop in and lend my support to you.  Let us know when you have the date scheduled.

Vernita I worked in the legal field for over 20 yrs. I have read more medical records from surgeries to myelograms to MRI's than anyone ever should, lol. My friends that worked in the same field we always said we knew way too much about some of this stuff, maybe more than we needed to. But, we also were glad that we had the knowledge because we knew who were the very best of the drs & who were the very worst ones too, lol. My favorite neurosurgeon retired but I met another one that is just as competent & good. My son saw him & this fella has quite a following. Should the need arise I know who I will be calling.

I still have friends in the legal field that keeps me updated on the dr situation, lol. I am just so glad that you went with that gut feeling & found a good dr.

Finally have a surgery date, June 10. Pre-op on May 29. Yippee.

Thanks Susie. He's taking vacation, guess that's why the longer wait. But that is ok, as long as my pain stays tolerable.

Great news! June 10 will be here before you know it. The more you can prepare beforehand the better.

That's really good news and I am so glad you got more opinions. I have gotten to the point that I see three different drs for something such as this and go with majority an my gut instinct. You sound like you like the surgeon you choose an your comfortable with him and that instinct is usually right on.

Be sure to go over the pre op list in CP 101 of things to do an have on hand prior to your date, many great experience and ideas to help especially since you and your fur baby will be dependant on each other for a while.

You really can make ready since you have a good deal of time before you go in.

So glad for you that you have a good surgeon. Now plan out a recovery, don 't go by any set book on recovery time it will be slow. Ask everyone you know for help and make your dinners and store them in your freezer...get your house set up, even plan on putting some undies on your night stand so you can reach them easier....put some books and magazines within reach, make sure your tv remotes have new batteries...maybe install the clapper for your lights...

Be sure you have a pocket for your cell phone & a charger within reach. Since most of these cell phone chargesr have such a short cord, get an extension cord to plug it into to make it easier to manage. One time had both knees done 3 weeks apart. If I sat down I could not get up without assistance. Boy, I could have kicked myself for ever agreeing to that schedule, I was an old pro on knee scopes because I had so many in the past, or so I thought, lol. A cell phone saved me hours of sitting until my husband would have started looking for me, lol. I had gone outside & sat down in a lounge chair talking to my sister on the phone. When I tried to get up I couldn't. Thank goodness I had my phone I had to call him to come outside & help me get out of the chair.
