Little background information as it's been quite awhile since I posted last. I see a pain management doctor for DDD, bone spurs, annular tear, sciatic nerve pain in both sides that shoots down both my legs, and collapsed/herniated L5-S1 disc in my back. I was diagnosed in 2005 and have been in PM for 4 years. My spinal surgeon is recommending a spinal fusion after trying a tens unit, massage therapy, chiropractors, physical therapy 2x, and 6 epidural injections in my disc area and left and right sacral joints. I am trying to hold out another 6-12 months due to 4 kids ages 8 and under. My baby girl Chloe is 1 and would be over my weight limit during recovery. I started out on 5/325 Vicodin in 2005 and am most recently taking 20 mg ER Kadian 3x day, 300 mg Gabapentin 3x day, and 7.5/325 Percocet up to 4x day. I have always had my worst pain times during the morning when I first wake up and at the end of the day after working and caring for my family.
I had my monthly visit this past Wednesday with my PM doctor. I mentioned that I was having to take 1.5 to 2 Percocet in the am and wait 30 minutes before I could even get myself out of bed, let alone my little ones. I would of course skip a dose or halve a dose later in the day to stay within my 4x day limit. He understood and didn't want me lowering/skipping a dose later in the day since that would sacrifice my pain level and functionality in the middle of the day. He didn't want to add more Tylenol to my daily dose and I told him we could remove it completely since Tylenol is like taking tic tacs in my opinion. He decided to switch me to 10 mg roxicodone up to 4x day instead. I filled my prescript
ion and received the generic equivalent called oxycodone. It's a tiny pink pill with k 56 stamped on it. I didn't notice any improvement with my new doses the past 3 days. I always like to research my medications and noticed a ton of negative reviews about
the generic manufacturer KVK Tech. So my question is whether or not you have had one generic work better than another? If so, which one was better? Or does name brand work best? I know they say all generics are equal to each other and the name brand to meet FDA regulations, but I also know that the fillers and binding agents can vary and cause them to absorb or metabolize differently. I know everyone has different success with different meds but wanted some opinions from fellow chronic pain sufferers and not from the "drug abusers" boards. I don't care which one shoots up or crushes better. I want to know which medication will help improve my quality of life the most when taken properly and as prescribed. You guys are always supportive and awesome so any experiences and opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!
