Weaning off Oxycodone in 7 weeks

My current pain doctor has stated that i need to get off pain meds, they in all honesty don't last long enough and they wont give me anything else bc insurance will not pay for it for my conditions. They want me to do water therapy and start swimming. I have started swimming in their hopes of strengthening my body so i will not have as much pain but even when i was stronger i had a lot of pain but the past year ive let myself go ive lost weight in muscle and am just needing to get it back. What if it doesn't work? what if i am in as much pain and before but just more flexible>? i have had a rough year pain wise and it has been very hard on me mentally too but i dont know how they think that by exercising ((which i do already)) that i will get better.

It messes with my head because i keep thinking that "oh i do this and i will be all better no pain" i know that statement is not true but it is still there as if that is what people will expect from me after going through this is that i will be all better.

I am scared but i know if i dont make changes i will end up in a dark place that i dont wish to return to. I have started swimming and am doiing light strength dvds to get core stuff going. i feel mixed.

Hi BG, I know when you posted in August you were having problems with someone in your drs office & having trouble with the pharmacy. I am guessing that you are on Medicaid & this is why insurance will not pay. A lot of states are no longer covered for pain mgt.

Give the hydrotherapy your best shot, you may be surprised how you feel after completing it. I have done it for back problems & by far it was much better for me than any therapy I have done before. I know you a really upset by the news the dr has given you, but try to remember getting all stressed out is only going to cause your pain level to spike & that will do you little good. As far as the depression goes keep an eye on it, don't it get out of hand.

Your depression could be the reason. Although chronic pain and depression are common, their can be concern for abuse and overdose. Can you pay for the meds yourself ? Even if.your Dr doesn't have a problem himself with you taking the meds, chances are great the.insurance com would give him.grief for prescribing it.

I have no idea what your insurance company's policy is concerning medication. An insurance company can decide not to cover certain medications & this happens a lot. One way to find out is put in a call to Kaiser, that way you get your information first hand not second hand. I am betting its because he is rxing 4 10mg a day, that is probably the problem. Now its usually i3 a day. I don't understand why he hasn't put you on a ER & something for BT pain. It may be time to look around for a new PM dr. You said even this dosage doesn't always help, maybe its time to look at something else.

I agree with what has been said about the ER Meds.

I've always felt that we should have some control over our Treatment.If I don't like the treatment I'm receiving from a Doctor then I'm not going to continue letting him make money off me.

It seems like this has caused you some distress so it may be time for you to go "Pro-active" and start calling around to find a new PMD.

Before I got in with the wonderful PMD I'm with now I was seeing a PMD that required me to have a 'Back Injection" every 90 days.I got on the internet and started calling PMDs in my area.

The people I talked to on the phone were very helpful in telling me what I needed to do to get a Referral to them.

I'd look at it as if you've got 7 weeks to find a new PMD,if that is your plan.

I bet if you will call Kaiser they will tell you what their protocol is for the amounts of oxy they cover per day day, regardless of who writes the script. The guidelines set out by the DEA for the past few years has changed the environment completely when it comes to pain mgt. It makes it difficult for anyone that has CP. A pharmacist can look at your script & refuse to fill it or even change the amounts per day. Like I said, its a completely different environment.

I can relate to your situation. Particularly where you say you are in a rut and depressed and people can't see what you are really going through. You look a little down so people ask and you tell them a little bit and they start asking if you have tried Advil and garbage like that. Really? I am breaking away from the depression a bit and I am becoming more just angry. I am learning who is supportive in my world and who is not. Most people try to "help" by making suggestions.

I am on Norco 5 2x per day. I asked to go to 3 because I am running out every month and the dr said no. I looked through my pharmacy and over the last 6 months my refills have gotten closer and closer together, to the point where I am at the minimum where the insurance company is telling me I need to wait a week before they will fill it. 6 months ago I was getting it filled every 6-8 weeks. Now I am down to needing it in 3, but I have to wait 4. I have an appointment with him in 10 days. In 11 days he might not be my dr anymore because I'm at my wits end.

I also see a psychologist and a therapist and they are a great help. I also have a job where I am expected to work 45-50 hours per week. The doctor made me do physical therapy last time I saw him despite my telling him it doesn't help. I quit the physical therapy last week because it was making me worse. I think the stress of fitting it in and working and family was hurting the chances of it being beneficial.

Sorry to share so much about myself in your thread, but I thought it would help to know others are dealing with similar situations. I too just don't know what to do some days. I need to focus to get my work done and there is a lot of pressure at work. At this point I just can't focus and I'm just angry and frustrated.
