Had to beg for more pain medication

I posted in the wrong forum. I am new to this sorry. My first post was asking for help with asking my Dr for more pain medicine as I was only on Percocet 10/325 2 x a day so 60 a month. I went to the Dr today and was there 5 hours yes he was running wayyyyy behind. I had a looooong day as he also writes my antianxiety meds as well. Well I asked him could he write it for 90 a month instead of the 60 and he did with very little problems. He also wrote me a script for 45 15mg codeine tablets for coughing. Does anyone know anything about these? My insurance has a $3 copay on generic but when I went back to get my prescriptions insurance had paid nothing and they were full price?? Insurance company had closed by now. So couldn't get any of meds. The story goes on and on as my day was horrible. (see my post in anxiety disorders. Thank you!

Hey Painhurts.Glad your Doctor upped your meds.I don't know much about Codeine.I've had Tylenol #3 and #4 with Codeine.

Opiates/Pain Meds are notorious for constipation.I'm only taking Norco at present so I might as well be taking Exlax.

I've got some little Dulcelax Laxatives.There are only 2 gone and I remember taking them now.

I was plugged up after my knee replacement.Taking more pain meds than ever.

I decided I was gonna fix things.I took 2 little orange pills one afternoon.I don't recommend taking 2.

I fixed things alright.It was traumatic.

Edit:Tylenol #3 has 30 mg of Codeine and Tylenol #4 has 60 mg of Codeine and they're relatively weak.

I agree with M&G about the codeine and insurance company,most opiates directly supress the cough center in the brain so the codeine wouldn't be any added benefit,also shouldn't be very expensive since its been around for decades and was actually the first narcotic used as a cough suppressant. I would not be surprised they gave you a difficult time,insurance and or pharmacy considering your increase in Percocet and a script for codeine and more so if your antianxiety med happens to be xanax,valium or klonopin. Looking at your scripts as written raises eyebrows and flags under the new regulations and battle over the use of short action meds in chronic pain conditions.

There is a new med for Opiate Induced Constipation although I can't remember it's name at the moment. It is a prescription so you should talk with your doctor about it but the pharmacist may be able to give you a pamphlet in the meantime.

I'm a recovered alcoholic and prefer NOT to use medication containing codeine for cough. When I had bronchitis a couple of years ago the doctor gave me a shot of prednisone and put me on a nebulizer. Worked like a charm.

Miralax is great tool. You won't become dependent on it, like the stimulate laxatives, and you can adjust your dose accordingly.

My son was a preemie, but his gi tract was his only complication. When he was a toddler, his Dr had him take two adult doses a day. If we missed even one dose, it was like starting all over. Your colon expands when constipated, and it takes quite a while for it to return back to normal size. Every time you become constipated, the colon returns to the larger size.

As others have stated, this is a common problem with prescription pain meds, and it can make you quite uncomfortable.
