meds stolen from hotel room same week as anniversary of childs death. can't cope

I know, I'm an idiot. My husband and I left in a hurry and I forgot my bottles of hydro and soma. Housekeeping came in when we were gone and needless to say, my meds were gone when we returned. Talked to a manager and all that. No help. We just got back and I'm going through severe withdrawal. It's the anniversary of my child's death and I am absolutely losing it. What can I do? I'm not even going to bother contacting my doctor because I know that they hear all kinds of stories from people who eat up all their meds. I feel like I'm going to die.

If you have a good relationship with your prescribing physician, I would call and see if you could get a secondary prescription to replace what was stolen.

Obviously, your mind was elsewhere when you left the hotel room. The anniversary of your child's death certainly does make your situation one where it would be nice to see some compassion directed toward you.

I have learned from this forum never to leave my pain medication to chance. But a theft or misplacement can happen, even to those who are mindful.

I have experienced severe withdrawal from a prescription narcotic. In attempting to taper from one dose of fentanyl patch to a lower dose of fentanyl patch, the abrupt change in dosage was too rapid. I cascaded into severe withdrawal over the course of several hours. Honestly, I felt as though I was going to die. I was hospitalized for three days due to severe withdrawal effects from a prescribed narcotic.

Withdrawl can be serious, depending on the prescribed narcotic dosing level that your body is now lacking.

All to say, call your MD if your are feeling horrible and discuss the particulars of your situation. I would hope that you situation would be met with a measure of kindness.

Regardless of what the motel manager said a police report was necessary!! Remember there's now two prescriptions floating around out there that could have catastrophic and dangerous potentials to someone who is not opiate tolerant. Those dangerous medications were your responsibility according to the law,add onto the fact some one out there has your name,possibly your address(some pharmacy labels include),your Dr and if they manage to access your online pharmacy information by prescription number they have a whole lot more than that. It's vitally important you file the report even now. Not to mention the police need to be aware there's a thief working a motel since this may not be a first or last issue there. When travelling never take more than you need with you and you can request pharmacy to provide a smaller "travel" bottle with appropriate label protocol and keep on your person at all times. If you have to travel with your entire meds its best to make sure the motel office has a safe or your room has one or lockbox in the trunk of your vehicle.

Regardless of whether your doctor's policy allows replacement he provided you with a scheduled medication and his information also appears on the stolen prescription and he has the right to know that they are in the hands of someone other than who they were intended.

He may not replace but he can prescribe alternative meds to help you with withdrawal symptoms. Stay hydrated,Imodium at its highest maximum dosing instructions will help as well,warm baths,eating even though you don't feel like doing so,distraction as much as possible and benedryl works for some as a calming agent.

I agree with everything Vickie said. Why didn't you file a police report ? If someone had stolen diamond jewlery, wouldn't you have filed a police report ?

I'm sorry about the loss of your child. I know what that pain is like. But, life goes on and we have to be responsible. Have you gotten counseling to deal with your grief ?

Melissa,I'm so sorry to hear of both things you mentioned.Doctors don't love to do so but they are almost required to replace meds if you have a Police Report,unless it's posted in his office that he won't.

Being only Norco,he may replace them.I would definitely make an appointment and ask.

At the least he may give you something to help the withdrawals.

My Xanax has been stolen by a family member x 2.My Doctor replaced them without hesitation the 1st time but I was told that he would not do it again without a Police Report.

When I went in there with a Police Report,he replaced them,but I could tell it made him mad.

At my next appointment I apologized to him for dragging him into my family problems.He accepted my apology and we've had a good relationship since.

I hope your Doctor helps you out of this physical suffering.

A friend of mine has his pain meds stolen walking out of the pharmacy. It was on video and he had a police report. He was told they can not write another script.. He maybe could have gotten something fro withdrawal but no more pain meds.
