It's 2am and I'm up hanging out in a hotel room with an awesome friend who drove me up to MCV.
I have a super easy surgery to clean out scar tissue around the metal tmj implants, and to check out how the implants are looking. Like in the past, fat from my abdomen will be used protect the joints. I told him to take as much fat as possible
" /> I was told that the joints themselves should last 10-15yrs. I am now 6yrs out from the original date. I've had a ton of procedures, such as removing a good part of bone around the area to prevent scar tissues from accruing. I had the coronoid process removed on each side. My surgeon is not happy with the bone growth, but is not surprised. My body LOVES to scar down. in addition, heterotopic bone is growing up the tendons on each side. Dr said they look like chess pieces, and must be removed.
Right now the thought is to due a 23 hr admission. Dr said he will reevaluate tomorrow afternoon. He wants to see how the rest of my body responds. Two surgeries in the past I developed pneumonia. He would like me to stay in Richmond a few days after the surgery just in case something pops up. I live 3hrs away, so I understand his reasoning. I have is phone number and we text back in forth, so he can check in when I get home. I'll be back on the 22nd for a follow-up.
I counted in my head how many surgeries I think I've had since 2010, and I think it's 14.. If procedures such as endoscopies, feeding placement and ports removed and replaced are included in the count, I'm easily up to 20. I wish the hospitals gave out the cards where a hole is punched every time you purchase something, and 10 punches get you a few item. I'd have so many punched cards to cover co-pays for the next 10yrs!
So-this one is pretty simple and I should be discharged by Saturday evening. it better be by 7:00 because I have a hockey game to watch. I checked to make sure the hotel carries the right channel
" /> After this surgery, I have a decision to make prior to gi surgery. I've traveled to 3 research hospitals , and all agree on the need for surgery, and which routes I have to consider. Neither route is easy and both have the potential for complications.
So, hip hip hooray for this easy fun, but I always appreciate the support the kind thoughts. I hate the need for this forum, I'm lucky to have found it.
