I have pain when sitting from old hamstring injury. also pain when standing due to plantar fasciitis.
Has anyone ever used an antisiezure drug Vimpat for neuropathic or chronic pain?

I am not familiar with that medication & did some digging on the net about it. I know many medications are used off label for various conditions. I could not find it being used off label, but I also did not spend a lot of time searching. I think I would visit my dr again & get a better explanation from him why he rx'd this & tell him any concerns that you have.

The pain I have is neuropathic. I had an injury to the hamsting insertion into the ischial tuberosity. The pain nerve that innervates this area is the posterior femoral cutaneous nerve and the branch of this nerve is the inferior cluneal branch going to the medial lower portion of the buttocks. Because the pain became persistant over the past few years when I would ly down or sit the inferior branch was removed about 7 weeks ago. Now the pain is at the site of the healing scar because that is where I sit. It may take a long time for that to resolve and I take gabapentin 600mg perday 3 x day and ibuprofen 400 mg 3x day. I need something stronger for the neuropathic pain bedause I have been taking gabapentin for years fo an immunologic disease call neuromyelitis optica. My neurologist has found in some cases that Vimpat can help neuropathicpin although it is mostly used in diabetic neuropathy. It is not available in generic and each prescription cost $600 us dollars per month. that is why I am looking for anyone who knows anything about this Vimpat or has other neuropathic pain suggestions.

There are other anticonvulsants that are more frequently used for nerve pain that would be less expensive. There are newer variations of gabapentin that might help; I've used Horizant (name brand of gabapentin that has a longer-acting mechanism) with a coupon & paid $100 per month for 2 doses/day. Lyrica is still under patent protection so it's only available as name-brand, but there is a coupon on their website that takes the cost way down. Between BCBS & the coupon, I only pay about $50/month for it.

The money saving coupons do not seem to work if you have Medicare
Health insurance I called the Vimpat company and they gave me the bad news. I would like to try the long acting gabapentin but I am afraid that again they will not honor coupons if you are on Medicare BS health insurance.
