There are other anticonvulsants that are more frequently used for nerve pain that would be less expensive. There are newer variations of gabapentin that might help; I've used Horizant (name brand of gabapentin that has a longer-acting mechanism) with a coupon & paid $100 per month for 2 doses/day. Lyrica is still under patent protection so it's only available as name-brand, but there is a coupon on their website that takes the cost way down. Between BCBS & the coupon, I only pay about
$50/month for it.
