SG, you are still pretty much fresh from surgery regardless of what the dr is saying. Healing to these drs means basically the incision looks nice. You have a long way to go before you will be completely healed. There is much internal healing to be done on the inside. Realistically, it takes a year to totally heal from a cervical fusion, some it can be 18 months. At the end of that time how you feel is when you will know the final result of the surgery.
Post op pain seems to be much less at the 6 week mark, depending on the individual. I am surprised your dr gave you flexeril, most give valium for just a few weeks right after surgery, then switch to something else. They don't like giving valium out because of addiction issues. However, 2-3 weeks, it can be a game changer for many. Is the flexeril giving you any relief? Did the dr rx it 2 a day or how? If the flexeril isn't working I would let the dr know.
about sleeping, do you have a recliner? If so, try to sleep in it. Most folks prefer a recliner right after surgery over a bed. If you don't have one what about borrowing one from a friend or relative, or renting one. If you rent one, go to a store & find one that fits you & give it a try in the store.
Ice packs are another go to instead of heat. Things are pretty inflamed inside right now & heat could aggravate things further.
I hope things calm down. I would not commit to October for the other surgery unless your neck is doing absolutely wonderful. Thats too much surgery close together.
