dmo, I saw your post and thought I'd tell you about
my own experiences with hip bursitis that I've been hit with about
three or four times in the past. My primary doctor diagnosed it by moving my legs from the hips this way and that while I was on the exam table and by pressing in spots which, when she found the spots, made me jump with pain. In my case, it was caused by overuse - using an elliptical trainer the
wrong way as I later found out too late! After being referred to an ortho and confirmed it was bursitis, I got cortisone shots, prednisone pills and PT - combinations of all these at different times. And this is what I learned: I was using this gym machine the wrong way and I needed to strengthen muscles and the IT bands, so my PT was all about
these goals. In fact, this led me to understand that as a woman in her 60's, I needed to strengthen
all my muscles as this would help protect my joints.
Bursitis can be caused by different things, though, and your case might be different than mine. Here is a site that might help:
https://www.arthritis-health.com/types/bursitis/hip-bursitis-causesWhat I also found that helped was Ultra Bengay on the hips or Salonpas patches. I hope you find out the cause so the treatment and recovery are faster!
