Hi MS66 & welcome to Healing Well. I am sorry to read about your situation. You have every right to be upset to get this news after your first surgery. Is the dr saying all of your problems stem from the neck surgery?
We have had many members here in the past that has had cervical fusions done. This is now considered a very common surgery & most people do very well afterwards. It's still surgery to the spine, do not get me wrong. I am guessing your surgeon did an MRI? How many levels does the surgeon say needs to be done? You already know what to expect from neck surgery post op wise. It will take you many months to heal, nothing is fast or over night. If you tend to heal fast from surgery this will be in your favor.
Surgeons tend to downplay the healing process to patients. It takes time & patience to recover. Some tips many of our members suggest is if you don't have an electronic bed, use a recliner for sleeping for a bit. It's easier to get up & down out of one than getting in/out of a bed. Fix a table next to it with your meds & whatever you like to drink. Listen to your body, if you over do things your body will tell you. Get up & move around as much as you can. Sometimes just getting up & walking/standing outside in some fresh air helps.
In CP101 at the top, scroll down towards the end, there is a post there that members listed suggestions about recovering from surgery. Some of these folks had neck & back surgery. There is a lot of good ideas there.
Keep us posted & ask any questions you may have, we will try to help.
