Dealing with MRSA

I was diagnosed with MRSA ten years ago. I live in Florida. Anyway........first thing I picked up on was.........don't let ANYONE know you have it !! Especially your medical doctors. I don't know about other areas of the U.S., but here in Florida......you mention it to your doctor (or specialist), there's a VERY GOOD chance, the doctor will discharge you as a patient ! NOTE : THERE'S BEEN A LOT OF OXYCODONE ABUSE IN FLORIDA. THAT'S WHY MEDICAL DOCTORS CAN'T PRESCRIBE ANY PAIN MEDICATIONS. Not to mention "other people" finding out you have MRSA. The other thing I quickly picked up on is.........MRSA IS a "cousin" to AIDS. With AIDS, your immune system is destroyed. With MRSA, your immune system is damaged. So.......if you get sick from something.....(so far) there is ONLY one antibiotic that "might" work. It's called (excuse my spelling) Vancomycin. If your body starts resisting this........there IS no other antibiotic to use. Not to mention the pain involved. I have sores (from MRSA) on my lower legs. And most of the time they hurt quite bad. On the pain scale they use in hospitals........my pain, most of the time is around an 8. And, the specialists that I see, they can't prescribe ANYTHING for pain [Due to the State of Florida Regulations]. They just tell you to go home and take Tylenol ! So far, I'm taking the maximum dosaging on Tylenol and Alleve. I usually have to take 3 Alleve tablets and 2 Tylenol....twice a day. I know........it's a LOT. But, I have a choice. Either I damage my liver from these pain medications, or I struggle daily with high level of pain. Anyway.........I wrote this just to let other people on this site know they're not by themselves with this problem. Unfortunately, down here in Florida, there is no support for MRSA sufferers.

Doctors can prescribe opiates in Florida for chronic and acute pain. The doctor has to specify on the prescription it is for chronic pain. For acute pain, there are some limits. But doctors can still prescribe opiates for acute pain. Unfortunately, some doctors tell their patients laws prevent them from prescribing opiates when it is all the doctors decision.

It is Always best for patients to read the laws in their state regarding the prescribing of opiates on a .gov website or the State Medical Board or State Board Of Pharmacy website.
