Unfortunately, that is the way most doctors are now. If you require opiates for chronic pain you need to see a Pain Management Doctor. It is common for patients with the problems you have and your age to still need opiates for chronic pain after surgeries as well as before.
How long have you been seeing your neurosurgeon and other doctors? When a doctor has been treating a patient for many years. sometimes they are more comfortable prescribing opiates, prior to surgery but not always. In addition, doctors have no way of knowing if a particular patient will follow through with surgery like they say they will.
Have you see a,pain management doctor before ? It can take time to find one that is,the right fit. Be sure and ask if they accept Medicare and explain your situation. Although if you plan on taking a Medicare Advantage Plan that is different because providers in their networks frequently drop out and join. A,doctor being in or out of a particular network now says nothing about
the future
