Anyone have any suggestions, medical or otherwise, to stop constant blinding headaches. I can hardly keep my eyes open some days.

i had constant migranes that would last all day and throb with my heart beart for years. (From age 14 to just over 20 years old.) DOctors could not figure it out no matter how many tests they ran. Then, through 'net research i found that a lot of people have very bad reactions to artificial sweetners (dramatic weight gain included in a lot of women ) and once i eliminated all artificial sweetners from my diet i haven't had one since. Except for the few times i've mistakenly taken a piece of gum from some one and didn't bother to check that it was sugar free.... even that one stick of gum brought the headache back within 5 minutes and was a horrible reminder to the adverse effects phenylketoneurotics (sp) can have on some one.

THis may not be what's wrong with you, but it's wotth a try to cut all fake sugars from your diet for a week and see

I have migraine headaches and unfortunately both of my children do too. My son began having them at the age of 8. The pediatric neurologist was as uselss as *** on a boar hog. My neurologist knew his history and did not take children that young, but agreed to see him. By the way, his migraines were severe, he still does this, projectile vomitting and then the dry heaves and severe blinding pain. This went on 2-3 hrs at a time with him begging to die. I put him in his bed with the room dark. This was gut wrenching for me to see. My neuro put him on a low dose of Elavil for 30 days only, plus given medication for them. We went to ER from that point on at a particular hospital, he would be admitted over night to get the pain cycle broken, then the H/A went away. Susie

Was living with the chronic headaches daily that I didn't realize until after I'd been to the neurologist they were really migraines, and after a few tests, blood work and more eval's, he put me on Topomax. I really hated getting used to the side effects at first but the headaches subsided to about 1 every 10 days or so... a huge break from daily! These headaches were often like helmet of pain all around my skull to the front behind my eyes... two MRI's later and we have an "inconclusive pituitary tumor dx" but the Topomax is working so we're staying with that. Up to 100mg a day split to 50mg twice a day, and I begin to notice I'm 'flat' and not very interactive or excited about life in general which means I'm slipping into a mild depression. So I cut it back to 50mg a day and the headaches have maintained...

Every so often, if I'm not careful with the diet (good note on the artificial stuff, it definitely raises cain with my system!) then I'll get more headaches but for now Topomax did the trick. Great side effect was immediate weight loss of 35lbs in 90 days... I'd been telling the drs for 8 yrs it's not me, it's my body! Topomax proved it true.

Megz have you ever been checked for Chiari Malformation . migranes can from this and are often mistaken . Here is a site with all the symptoms. You would need a Mri of the neck and head to see. Seriously think about it .
